    Reloading Boredom?

I get bored reloading, but its a necessary evil. I was wondering if people here did anything else while reloading? Listen to music, listen to and watch TV (every so often). I know about how one should just concentrate on the reloading, but I was just wondering. I have a portable dvd player set up and listen to a movie. Then watch a scene I like and go back to listening and loading.

While reloading distractions can and often result in bad things happening when trigger gets pulled. If you must have some music playing in the background at a low volume.

Usually, when you get bored that means your not too into it. Take a break, relax and then try it some more later. I really tried not to wait till the last minute on Friday night when I knew I was going shooting Saturday morning when all I had was a turret press.

I purchased a Dillon 650 with case feeder and take care of my rounds in 1-1.5 hours. No time to get bored.

I only load 200-300 rounds at a time which takes about 30 mins, take a break, and load some more. It took 5 days but I loaded 1200 rounds. I am trying to finish off my 8lb jug.

If you are bored you are not paying enough attention.
look at every powder drop. Sure it won't give you the weight but it will tell you if you are over or under. Pay attention to the seating of the bullet. And the way the press is working and the primer feed. Check the rounds the crimp the set of the primer. Test gauge?
                Enjoy

I load WHEN i'm bored. Few hundred here, few hundred there. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

BTW...RATM and Cake make for great loading music

It's really important you stay focused when you're reloading, even with a progressive. It's when you're not paying attention that mistakes are made.

To combat getting bored, I limit my loading time, about 20 rounds on a single-stage or about 200 rounds on the progressive. I take a break or come back the next day.

Been loading since 1962 and have always enjoyed it unless I am having to do it last min for someone. I use a single stage press and load from a few to 1000+ at a time. I usually batch load and often do so when listening to music or watching TV. I hand-prime all my brass except the 50bmg(have not found one for it yet) and do so while watching TV. I often prime 1000-3000 at a time.
I have never had a problem with my ammo. I finally had a dud this year and it was a faulty primer.I have had 3 out of that one lot of primers. You can bet they will only be used for plinking ammo. A friend who I shared the lot of primers with had several duds also. Music/TV or anything else would not change it and make those rounds work.

You can make reloading as complex and a voodoo/spooky type of thing as you want or not. It all depends on the person. Some have to have it quiet etc and others do not need it that way. I pay attention to what I am doing and double check all loads for powder level. Just remember you are making little bombs that you are going to set off next to your face and take the care required for doing this safely. But you do not need to get over the top about it. Then I guess some people cannot tie there shoes with music or the TV as a distraction. While others could do so during sex. What I mean is that do what makes you feel and be safe but you do not need to go overboard either. Use reasonable safety procedures and you will be fine.

^^^+1 to that. i used to listen to music in my dad's garage while reloading and never had an issue. just got my setup running a couple months ago in my closet and haven't got any tunes in there. i turn the tv on outside for a little background noise and i only load 50-200 rds at a time. discomfort generally gets the best of me before boredom has a chance as my closet is a little crowded and i'm sitting on a bucket reaching over my pile of tools to where my powder measure is mounted. it's a long story but i'll get it working properly soon. just a storage issue.

i play a movie when i am preparing my cases eg. deburring, case trimming and primer pocket cleaning in bulk. then when i reload the ammo i would turn it off and concentrate on what i am doing. With a progressive press, the main thing that i make sure i have is powder on the casing. I visually check that each time and weigh every 25 rounds. So, sometimes i can watch an old movie and play it. The primer seating is not an issue "for me" because it goes by feeling and after it being set up already, I know it is the correct depth on the primer pocket. I prep a bunch of cases before i start the loading process.

I listen to music when doing the boring stuff (I really don't enjoy case prep) and try to do that in batches of 100. I'll do up a lot of case prep work and have quite a stock of sized, trimmed, and primed brass ready to go. I concentrate when throwing charges and seating bullets (one step). I have a Harrell's powder measure and throw a charge, then seat the bullet in one pass. I don't have anything else going on when I do this. I use this method when loading my highpower ammo, in 100 rd batches (because that's the size of the boxes I use).

I rarely do case prep and powder charge/bullet seating in the same evening. That way, I stay sharp when I need to be sharp.
