    hornady LnL trouble

Ok i m having trouble getting this reloader working properly.

First i have made a dent into the reloader with the primer seating screw. So i tried the cheap penny or dime underneath trick. Now, when i prime sometimes the primer goes up off- center causing the primer to go up in unbalance getting stuck on the primer pocket wall.

Second, i shoot my first batch of reload and 1 of the round went inside the chamber but the projectile got stuck inside the barrel. GOOD THING THE NEXT ROUND THAT WENT IN DID NOT FIRE.

I am guessing roll crimp trouble causing this.

I use the new Hornady Custom 223 3 piece set.

HELP i have a 1k piece of machine catching dust.

if you call hornady, they will take care of you, I do not know what "made a dent into the reloader" means, also " 1 of the round went inside the chamber but the projectile got stuck inside the barrel" indicates a ?squib load?

Could you explain this, on both counts?

The primer punch is supposed to make a small dent on the surface of the cast iron press frame just like this (circled in yellow):

Do not try to shim the dent since it's normal.

As to your squib round, are you using a powder check die or visually checking every round for correct powder charge?

I don't know if he means a squib load or if maybe he means the bullet was pulled from the case as it hit the throat and the rifling caught it.

Did the bullet travel up the barrel any?

              Chief, It is auto index

also, you could add a powder cop to it, http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=199393

I've noticed that over time crud can accumulate in the area where the primer shuttle comes to a stop, this causes it to be slightly off center to the punch. Remove the shell plate, slide the primer shuttle back, and check that there's no dirt/powder/brass shavings in there. It only takes a small amount due to the close tolerances, I use a dental pick type tool to gently scrape it clean. Also, if your primer feed tube is bolted down to loose or tight, it may prevent a smooth pickup of the next primer, perhaps they are catching and getting turned on the way in?

Yes, his post is a bit cryptic. It's obviously a cartridge OAL issue if the projectile is coming in contact with the rifling when chambered. Guess we'll wait for the OP to clarify.....

Also, following the K*I*S*S method, are you sure you have the small primer shuttle installed and not the large primer shuttle?

Again, remove the coin. The dent is normal. The coin is not a level surface and is tilting the primer punch.

Without the coin, if you still have primers entering the pocket at an angle, check these:

1: Is the correct small primer punch, slide and tube installed?
2: Is there any debris inside the primer punch housing that might be deflecting the punch to one side?
3: It's possible that the threads on the primer punch assembly or the threads in the shell plate are out of spec and the primer assembly is canted. Call Hornady.

                          Care to elaborate on this?:

Second, i shoot my first batch of reload and 1 of the round went inside the chamber but the projectile got stuck inside the barrel.

Double check the primer tube and feeder setup in the instructions. If you do not do it EXACTLY as described, it will not properly line up to properly feed the primers, will jam primers and damage the primer feeder slider.

i checked the priming screw. slider. tube. all works well...maybe the thread on the lnl is off.

Also about the bullet that feed into my barrel and got stuck. I pulled the trigger and heard "click" so i tapped and racked and the bolt did not seat forward all the way so i took it apart and found the projectile inside the barrel in the chamber where the rifle twist starts.

                              maybe the OAL was off?
