    Quick .223 load question

I have some Hornady 55gr Spire-Point bullets with a cannelure, but I don't have the Hornady manual. So I'm using Accurate Arms data since I'm using 2230 powder. Anyways, to the point. On AA's page if indicated a load length of 2.230", however the cannelure is was above the case mouth. I checked, and I would have to seat to 2.200" to crimp in the cannelure.

Hornady being the designers, and probably much smarter than me, probably wouldn't have put the cannelure that high if the bullet wasn't designed to be seated there, but I'm wondering if anyone is willing to go crack open their Hornady manual and check what the COAL is for these bullets?

I have edition one of the Hornady handbook of cartridge reloading and does list a length of 2.200 for that bullet but there is no charge weight listed for the powder you have.

Thank you for checking that for me. I'll use a reduced charge weight first.

ive got a hornady 7th edition and it lists c.o.l. as 2.130. for AA 2230 powder its list starting at 20.2(2700fps) and max at 22.3 (3000fps). i can try and scan the page in for you if you'd like. link below for the bullet which im pretty is the one you have.

The page you are looking for could not be located. We're sorry, but it appears the page you have requested is no longer available. Please check the URL and try again....

That looks like the one. Though mine was much cheaper. Interestingly enough. My data indicates over 25gr is safe, and at 2.220" I got no pressure signs at all up to 25. I'm loading this at plinking ammo so I'm going with 23gr at 2.200"

Just an FYI, I'm sure its safe because I had 10 loaded at 2.210 with 23.5gr and there was no pressure signs there either.

Seating so the cannelure shows will not hurt anything
