    Using steel case ammo!

I'm sure people have asked this question plenty of time but I need to be reassured. I need to restock on ammo but the price of brass is way to expensive. I'm thinking of getting wolf ammo. But some people would rather drown to death or be burned alive rather than use a steel cased ammo. I've read that people won't use steel case because it scratches the inside area of the ejection port area or the coatings on the ammo can leave residue which can lead to problems. If that's the case and your
the type that don't clean your rifle every time you shot ( i have a POF and i will admit i don't clean it every time i shot) that could cause problems i assume.

Has anyone that used steel case ammo have any issues? What are other reason for people that won't use steel case ammo?

    Thanks.

Some people are just too picky and or wimpy to use steel cased ammo. I ran a case of 500 rounds through a brand new LWRC M6A2 upper with no problems. People say it eats up extractors and or that it ruins the chamber and other useless excuses.

My honest opinion is to find a friend that has a reloader and pay a small fee to use it and crank out your own ammo instead. Before I bought the parts for my XL650 I would beg borrow and steal press time from a few of my buddies. That was so I could get a hang of it and see if I really wanted to load my own. I am glad I ponied up the cash to do so.

The only problem I have ever had with steel case (wolf only) is the extractor tab getting ripped off and having to knock out the case with a cleaning rod. That almost never happens. I've had well over 2k rounds down the pipe and only had this problem twice.

I asked about it today and friday and was told the same answer twice. The steel case expands and doesn't contract. While brass has some memory, expands, and then contracts.

It seems people that owns piston driven AR's never want to use steel case ammo. It's good to hear that haven't had problems. My buddy has a spikes (DI) and he's had no issues with wolf. It's good to know. Cause I was a website that were selling 1k wolfs for $199 or probably 230 shipped. Can't beat that price. I going to try some.

The AR15 was not designed to be fed steel cases. Eugene Stoner would not be happy.

Well shooting steel cased ammo sure makes picking the the empty's up easy

I don't use it is because of its foreign manufacture. I figure that every box of it that is sold puts another nail in the coffin of the U.S. ammunition manufacturers.

From what I have heard (and seen) steel cases are fine just don't run still then brass with out cleaning. Steel won't fill the chamber and gasses get by then you run brass and it expands in the chamber and gets stuck.

So if you are going to shoot steel and brass at the range shoot the brass first then shoot steal and clean before you go back to brass.

                YMMV

American companies probably make more on wolf then our own ammo.

I don't buy steel case only because I want the brass to reload. Also I would look into the "bear" ammo for steel case, usually about the same price as wolf but seems way more consistent.

True, there might be a bit more markup, but this is short-sighted economic reasoning.

And, unfortunately, that's been the line of thinking that has pretty much destroyed our economy, industry-by-industry. It doesn't matter how much any individual company "makes" from Wolf ammo, what matters is how much the domestic economic system makes overall. The money "made" by middlemen, warehouses, shippers and retailers is inconsequential, if the "nut" is going overseas. A service economy is simply a dead-end system to redistribute the last remaining wealth, while bleeding it off, bit-by-bit.

The government never seemed to mind, probably because (like the shipping industry) they take their cut every time something moves or changes hands. Besides, it's in the government's best interests to support cheap imports in order to placate the consumers, allowing them to revel in the illusion that a blue-collar family really makes enough money to have a 4000 sq. ft. house in the 'burbs, and a luxury SUV while putting 2.2 kids through college.

No matter how you cut it, at some point, buying foreign goods closes another factory and sends American workers home with a pink slip, while supporting offshore workers and (often oppressive) governments. It should be obvious by now where this leads to if it goes unchecked. The first few (unpatriotic) corporations to outsource production were cutting a fat hog, riding on the backs of third-world laborers. The problem was, stateside, they were laying off each others' customers. It's pretty easy to see to see where that was going to lead. After all, it's not as if they were going to be able to sell their wares in some other country.

When he first revealed his economic recovery plans, Obama let loose with a lot of "buy domestic" rhetoric. China immediately told him to knock it off. And he obeyed, because we're owned. We're owned, because the American Consumer has been "living the dream"; borrowing more and more money against their homes in order to blindly & rabidly buy status symbols for the last 15 years or so.

If I want to shoot cheap, I buy Lake City 193 or 855 , and then reload.

I have put about 2000 rounds of wolf and pmc (from big 5) through my saiga .308 and never had one issue. This is the only weapon I have that I run steel case in. But it hammers brass so bad that it cant be reloaded anyways.
