Here's my 3 shot group with 77gr Nosler CC. 4th shot not included was due to the wind gust that moved the target. Guess I had to "season" the barrel.

      18" BCM SS410 barrel
      Nosler 77gr CC
      23.5 grains of Varget
      '14 LC brass
      CCI 41 primers
      Seat depth to 1.887 ogive

? on load, are these too hot of a load

Working on 223 load and wanting to see what my rifles like the best.

        2 barrels
        18" criterion 1/7 twist
        20" JP 1/8 twist

Bullet: 77 gr Sierra MatchKing HPBT
        Primer: CCI 400
        Brass: LC
        Brass Trim: 1.750
        OAL: 2.256 - 2.258
        Ogive: 1.875

        Powder: Hodgdon Varget

Loads I am looking at are the following:

        22.5, 23, 23.5, 24, 24.3, 24.5 & 25

THe Lyman reloading book is the only manual that states you can go up to 25 gr of Varget.

Is going above 24 gr of varget too hot of a load with the above information?

        Thanks for the help,

        Chad

I've gone up to 24.6 gr of Varget behind a 77 gr Nosler CC projectile with no pressure signs whatsoever using LC brass. I'm planning on going up to 24.8 gr next in search of that perfect load. Rifle was my SPRish build with 18" WOA SPR barrel with 223 Wylde chamber. However, YMMV. Always work up your loads in YOUR rifle and don't just blindly use someone else's load.

24.5gr of varget will be all you ever need with bullets up to 80gr in weight.
            Keep it simple!

I've done load development with the same components a few weeks back from 22-24.7 @.3 grain increments. A bit of primer cratering starts at 24.4 and very obvious at 24.7.

              I am using a noveske 16 barrel. I settled for 24 grains.

Anyone have any load data for 1:7 16" shelf guns?

I need to work up a load for 600-800 yards with IMR4895/Varget. Anyone have any pet loads I can work up to for this?

Somewhere between 24.0 and 24.5 grains of Varget.

800 yards is asking a lot from a 77 grain bullet out of a 16" barrel though.

Ok I was expecting 24-24.5 ish range. I'll do a work up and see how pressures are around 24.

And I know, it's not a serious competition 10 ring load. We just want to get the best we can for our limited set up. I have 308s build for 1000, I just want to mess around with 5.56 and not just lob XM 55gr out there with a prayer.

Get a slightly better more stable bullet/load. Won't be great but I'm sure it will be worlds better than the 55gr plink loads we have. Also so my girl can see what it takes to shoot long distance. See if it's her thing.

                      Any suggestions for 77grn tmk?

I’m trying varget from 22-25 grn and can only get a decent group at the low range. Anything higher and I’m getting compression and start to deform the bullet

Try some Hodgdon H4895, IMR 8208 XBR or a spherical powder like Ramshot TAC.
