    Shooting Chrony Beta Issues

Brought mine to the range today after testing it with an air pistol. Flawless with air pistol but I could not get one good reading with handguns. Error after error with crazy velocities thrown in for fun. It looked good to go.

    Any tips from users?

I am always looking for Beretta D models in 9mm or a Compact Type M.

Were you using it indoors with fluorescent lights?

mine gives crazy readings like that too but it's usually because the bullets pass thru too close to one side or the other. or your muzzle is too close to the screen and it was registering the particles from the muzzle blast. 10-feet from the muzzle is what the instruction said. you can go beyond 10' and it'll work just fine.

also, lining up the center line of the screens directly between the gun and target is very important too. I was shooting at a 100 yard target from high-left part of the front screen thru the lower-right part of the rear screen and it didn't register any velocity for 5 rounds till I centered it up.

I have a Beta Master model. I usually chrono pistol and rifle from sandbags or a bench rest.

Definitely make sure there is enough distance, 8-10 ft from the muzzle. On a sunny day, the light reflectors are needed. On a bright cloudy day, they can be off. (I've never tried indoors.) If your chrono is mounted on a tripod, your tripod should have a 90 degree vertical lock. Try removing the reflectors, leave the rods in and flip the tripod 90 degrees. (You may want to put a sandbag to weight down the tripod for stability.) We were doing that measuring shotgun loads outdoors on a sunny day and it worked fine. Just a suggestion.
