Lee bulge buster...

Has anyone used this Lee bulge buster? I am loading some .45s and every now and then i would have casing that would not fit the .45 gage, so , i put them away and hope someday i could reload them again. Lee has this bulge buster and i was wondering if you guys have used it. I am using Redding carbide 3 die set .45 cal.

If your round does not fit in the case gauge, you did something wrong. Disassemble the round and start over.

the "kit" seems a little lacking since it requires you to already have a "lee factory crimp" die

so basically all the kit gives you is a push rod and a catch cup

and you could get a pusher and catch cup with a lee bullet sizing die kit for like $13

funny i thought only 40 needed that kit

No, i decap and resize first and since i have been trying to prevent a repeat of the bulge, i try to separate the brass that would not fit the gage. Those that "would" fit the gage works and chambers fine, but there are those that i have separated after decapping and resizing that does not fit, I have not "loaded" them at all, knowing that they would not fit the chamber gage anyway.

Do you have your sizer die screwed all the way down? Have you tried sizing the problem brass on a single stage press?

Do you have a Lee FCD? If you do you can probably take out the adjustment knob and push a case through with some kind of punch and see if it solves the problem.

If I'm understanding correctly, his sized empty cases fail the case gauge. If so, then the FCD will not help.

what you do is remove the insert and push a case all the way through there is always a little area that is not sized between the shellholder and the chamfer on the die

Sid45 you may want to check the rim of the .45 brass that does not fit the case gauge. A little ding on the rim is going to prevent the brass from going into the gauge completely. If that is the case you can use a file just to remove a very small amount of the brass. Basically rounding it off.
I've had that problem before. I did not find anything on the sizing die but did find it on the brass's rim.

A standard sizing die will remove any bulges if it is screwed down to the shell holder. Instead of doing wacky things with the FCD, it is far better to size the brass correctly in the first place.

Its from a lee lead bullet sizing kit. May as well get the "bulge buster" if you do not need the lead bullet sizer.

I used the FCD and use a punch to push it through the FCD and they all fit the chamber gage. It seems like it added another stage for this brass that have a bulge.... first i decap and resize, then i check them if they would fit the gage, if not i will run them to the factory crimp die. The bulge is on the base of the brass and wear off if i run them through the FCD. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

If you need to use the FCD then your dies are not adjusted properly.
