It's not the metal case that they are concerned but the steel core bullet.
Numerous fires have been started over the years in high fire risk areas from shooting steel core ammo at metal objects.sigpic

Note that most ranges simply test bullets but seeing if they stick to a magnet. If it sticks, you can't use it, whether it is true steel core (which seems to be pretty rare) or just has a bimetal jacket (as Wolf and Brown Bear does).
In addition to the potential fire hazard (which is real during the summer), ranges also frown on steel core penetrator-type ammo because it will beat the hell out of their steel targets.
Some ranges don't allow metal-cased ammo as it cuts into the money they make on recycling your spent brass. They also don't want to have to pick all the steel out.Comment

There are also other penetration/safety concerns...if backdrop/background not designed correctly, can lead to other issues, so that, combined with insurance and liability concerns, will result in many ranges not allowing steel core...
Thanks for the brand info RS...major challenge is finding resellers supplying bulk of those (I keep up regular inquiries with the larger distributors - either not enough supply or market for them currently). My idea of "help from above" is a sniper on the roof

If I remeber correctly, WOlf Millitary classic FMJ 7.62x39's are not bi-metal. Our range sold tons of them and our range is strictly NO STEEL AMMO range. I asked the guy and he show'd me with the magnet and it didnt stick...but gotta make sure its the correct Wolf.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment
