    45acp TiteGroup range report.

I finally got a chance to shoot my 45acp reloads. I loaded 3 different loads for my Sig P220 that I have not shot in 10 years. Reloading got me excited about shooting again.
I purchased a pound of TiteGroup from a fellow Calgunner , thinking I will reload 45acp sooner or later. Then MidwayUsa had a sale on blemished 230gr JHP bullets. I loaded 3 different batches.
    1st. 4.4gr of Titegroup
    2nd. 4.6gr of Titegroup
    3rd. 4.8gr of Titegroup
I shoot the 1st load and I shot ok for not shooting My hand gun for a long time.
Then I shot the 2nd load, and this one was not as good as the 1st batch.
Finally I shot the 3rd batch, thinking its a hotter round so it might be the worst grouping. Well I was surprised to learn that my gun like this load best as my grouping got a whole lot smaller.
If I have one advise to any newbie using Titegroup, do not get distracted when your loading this powder. Compared to loading 223's I really have to keep track on the amount of powder. Pulling the trigger for my 1st shot was a little scarier than with my reload on the 223's. The difference in the amount of powder being used was so big that (so much easier to double charge in the handgun loads), sometimes i doubt myself after seating the bullet.
I was just happy that all of my Reloads went Bang and not Kaboom. And that my reloading system is save and good.

I know what you mean about the small amount of powder with Titegroup. The first few batches I did I was second guessing myself like you mentioned, but I still have all my digits and face intact. Congrats on the good load session.

Using any ball powder like Titegroup, Win-231 and Bullseye in .45ACP you must be very careful not to double charge. The key is weight three times and pour once. Visual inspection is the key, when in doubt dump the powder and start over!

Nice! I love TiteGroup powder, I've used it for 9 and .40 with good results so far. Like Chief said, if you think something is wrong dump it out and start again. Or dump it in a scale and measure it, I have a light that I use over station 3 which is empty to check powder myself. Take care and be safe while reloading

Thanks guys! I do watch and pay much much more attention when I'm using Titegroup, a lot slower process, but that doesn't really bother me. I'm glad that it measured real good on my Hornady powder measure, I trickle about .1-.2grs (mostly on the .1) per charge. I think the key to my success so far is when in doubt, bump the powder and start over again.
The only bummer was when I was shooting in loosing 30-40% of my brass, it's ejecting to the 1 o'clock position of me standing up over the barrier. I'm just glad nobody was shooting next to me.
Now I'm waiting for my 9mm die to come in and start loading for that too.

That's what I do too. I check my powder drop weight 3 times before I start loading. If I get a charge that looks a little off I'll weight it and recharge the case. I have seen a very mild Kaboom during a completion from one of the guys. Older gent was blowing out his mags and locking his gun after each shot. Turns out he had put WAY to much powder into his case simply because he did not check his drop before loading.

Even if you live alone and only load one caliber, check your charge weight a few times before you start reloading and maybe every 50 rounds after that. Adds a little more time to reloading but its better than a Kaboom.
