    Wilson Case Trimmer

I have some Lapua .308 brass that needs a trim. Anyone using a Wilson for precision brass? If you do how long does it take to do a lot of 100 cases? How do you like the trimmer overall?

Looks like the trimmer properly indexes the case off the shoulder rather than the base like my Lyman Power trimmer. I load these rounds single stage.

Ok so no one uses a Wilson Trimmer. What trimmer do you use on your Lapua or Norma Cases?

Just about any case trimmer will work and work well. It just depends on how much effort you want to put in versus how much you want to spend.....

      CHEAP(SLOW).............MIDDLE.................... ....................EXPENSIVE(FAST)
Lee........Lyman, RCBS, Hornady, Redding, Forester, Wilson.......Gracey, Giraud

The middle group is about the same, some have extra features etc.., all have power adapters. Pick your poison.
      Luck favors the prepared.

The WILSON is the most accurate trimmer on the market. Mainly because it holds the case by the body and neck and not the case head. Bench rest shooters have used the Wilson for years. To answer, "How long will it take...." Depends on how much needs to be trimmed. Based on my experience using my own hand powered Wilson with 30.06 and 308 Match brass, I think 100 rounds will cost you an hour of your time. Maybe a little longer. Remember this is "hand powered". A motor cutter will cut your time significantly.

I have been using the Possum Trimmer for my plinking 308 loads but just got the extra cutter and shell adapter in both 308 & .204 ruger for my Garaud. Sold my Dillon power trimmer and have no regrets!

I use the LE Wilson for most of my trimming (pretty much everything but .223). How long does it take to trim 100 cases? I honestly can't tell you. I've never timed it.

                Waldog,

Thanks I think I will buy one. I use a Lyman Power Trimmer for plinking and hunting rounds but I really want to see if I can make some detailed precision ammo.

I have a wilson and recently trimmed 380 cases in about 3 hours. I like it and it is very precise but this inspired me to buy a Giraud, which I have not yet had occasion to use.

                    Advice

I load single stage, and time is not a factor. $$ are more than limited, they are finite and expended. I neck size only bottle neck rifle with Lee collet dies. I am not changing that anytime soon unless I win the lottery Given that I neck size, and shoot mid range loads from the manuals, my cases are not stretching, hardly at all. All my cases are "fireformed" for each particular weapon, in this case, three separate chamberings, two different calibers, .264 and 8mm. Since my cases are limited in shoulder/headspace growth by the chamber, the only case expansion I should see is the in the neck. And since I am neck sizing, then I should be fine trimming the neck based off the case head or base.

Given my conditions as I understand them, I don't see any accuracy advantage in any trimmer over the Lee manual trimmers I am currently using. Is this essentially correct ??

Thanks - Very Carefully considering here to spend my next reloading $$$ - Stet - going to Calguns -

                      380 cases in 3 hours?1?!?

Sheesh. I can trim 100 308 cases in less than 20 minutes, but I use the Boulder Creek Engineering hyper-speed Wilson trimmer accessory.
