need 45acp load advise for Sig P220

Ok so I have a Sig P220 and also a IMI baby eagle in .45, I don't know what the problem is but I am way more accurate with the shorter barrel baby eagle. I'm using 5.0 of bullseye with a 230 gn berry plated round nose bullet. No feeding problems or any other issues besides accuracy.
I'm shooting small steel plates at about 20 yards in a friendly "combat" style competition and just get way more misses with the sig than the eagle.
Advice?

You need to shoot a box of factory ammo as a control to see if it's the ammo or the gun.

Make sure you shoot the pistol off sandbags on the bench, to KNOW where your rounds are going in relation to your sights. If they're way off, adjust/replace your sights.

Then keep practicing.

The other guys nailed it. I don't think think its the ammo because it's already proven. It's good ammo. 5 grs of BE behind a 230gr FMJ is a standard.

I would spend some intimate time with the Sig and get to know it like you know the Baby Eagle. Sometimes, it takes longer or shorter time to get a pistol set up and wired, you know what I mean. Either way, you will soon learn if it's you or the pistol that's the problem or a combination of the two.

Make sure you shoot the pistol off sandbags on the bench, to KNOW where your rounds are going in relation to your sights. If they're way off, adjust/replace your sights.

This is a good way to set up and dial in your pistol.

I haven't shot it off a rest, but it just seems strange to me that I'm so much better with the eagle. I've actually owned the 220 longer and shot it more then the eagle too. It's probably just me, I should ask one of the sharp shooter guys at the range to give it a whirl for me. Thanks for the replies they are all helpfull in figuiring out my next move.

Try 5.4 gr 231 or HP38 (they're the same powder) using 200 gr SWC hardcast (Mastercast). This works great on all my 1911s, sig 220, HK USP, and S&W 1917.

still kinda new to reloading, I've done about 4k .45 acp rounds with 3-4 different powder/ bullet combos and also done about 500 .223 rounds as well using imr 4198 and varget with various bullets. my point here is I don't have much experience but not exactly my first day in school either.

Question is this, any problems shooting lead? How to tell if the lead is causing problems and then if it is what to do to fix it? Leading the barrels seems to be a debated topic that I'm just a little bit unclear on.

Try 5.4 gr 231 or HP38 (they're the same powder) using 200 gr SWC hardcast (Mastercast). This works great on all my 1911s, sig 220, HK USP, and S&W 1917.

My pet load of .45ACP is 4.7 grains of 231 using 200grain LSWC from www.bulletworks.com. Cycles the Colt M-1911 and the SA TRP Operator with ease.

Leading is very minimal with this load. I always run 3 to 4 jacketed loads to take out leading after my session with this load.

I have seen low prices on swc' s on auctionarms but I get my bullets for a pretty good deal from a buddy so that being said and considering i already have about 2k of the berry 230 rn's should I think about buying some other bullets anyway to improve accuracy?

Yeah it could be that too, I haven't tried accuracy testing both guns of a rest, only during the steel match I shoot both guns on each stage and seem to get almost twice as many misses with the sig.

Looking forward to my next chance to get to the range.

I have found over the years that the 200 gr LSWC to be the most accurate bullet, my last bullet order was 7K for around $300.00 with shipping included.
I shoot around 400 to 500 rounds a week. Still have around 1K of loaded 230gr. plated round nose rounds, just happen to like the lead.
