Anyone here uses VV N540 for 223s?

I just want to see if anyone got some experience using VV's "high energy rifle powders" for loading 223s.... particularly with 77grainers...

Sean McKenna of Berger Bullets uses N540 with Rem 7.5s for his service rifle loads. He uses 73 grainers to great effect out to 300 yards. I'm guessing he uses the 80 gr. VLD bullet past that. He won the Creedmoor Cup last year with his service rifle, swatting down shooters with match rifles with more "grunt" in the chamber. I'm sure he'd be happy to assist you in working up a load with N540.

The 77 gr. bullet they offer is rather new, but it should be comparable to Sierra's bullet.

Lapua website got data for loading Hornady 75gr with N540... I was just wondering if anyone of you have a personal experience with it.... Powder Valley only have 2lb, I hate to get that and then find out that it is not good for 77gr 223s...

Have fired thousands of rounds with N540 and 77's and 80's (Berger and JLK). No problems at all. Good velocity, clean burning, and very accurate. Lots of bearing surface with the 77's, so use less powder than with the other bullets.

            Do you have ANY numbers/data?

ie. powder wt, velocity, barrel length, twist rate, brand of bullet.... etc...

What is the speed the MK262 Mod stuff should be when it leaves the muzzle of a SPR?

I googled it and it sounds like 3081ft per second to me.

                Then I found this one?

                2725
                2735

                WTF is it then?

Ill be damned, I would have thought it would have been closer to the ss109/m855 speeds.

                      According to

                      Mk262 Mod 1 is 2783fps out of a Mk12 Mod 0.

WHERE do you find your numbers?

Mk262 is 25% heavier than M855 (15gr).... hence more potential energy and less kinetic energy.... ie. should fly slower.... even if it is loaded HOT...

There's no way you safely push a 77gr bullet as fast as a 55gr or even a 62gr in the AR platform.

What's M855 moving at out of a 20" Service Rifle barrel? 3000fps? I could *maybe* get to 2900fps with a 77gr out of a 20" SR barrel. I'd be tossing the brass after one firing, though.

I think I will be ordering RL15, TAC and VV N-540 today from Powder Valley to try out.....

Originally, I was thinking about trying N135 or N140.... but I think... N540 maybe my better bet....

I still want some load data, if possible, so that I can back it off and try it out myself...

Maybe I will try to contact Lapua for them. (too bad they only have numbers for 75gr, not 77gr published....)
