    Range Report first reloads

    L-N-L AP 45ACP 230GR zero rn fmj, 185GR HP/XTP.
    1. Hornady dies separate powder funnel seat, crimp
    2. 45ACP shellplate
    3. mixed brass
    4. wolf LPP
    5. AA5 powder
1911 gov Chip McCormick power mags, les baer mag.
About 200 rounds fired I did all kinds of things 8rds. 2rds,3,4. Everything was working well Man what a difference in the accuracy. All that I had shot out of this gun was store reloads before. Anyway the checkering on the front strap was digging in . In one of the mags the last round would not fire 230 gr zero rn fmj. I checked out the round measured it all looked good. So I loaded a 8rd chip mag put it in the first position and all 8 rounds fired.Any thoughts on why that round did not fire the first time. The zero 1.260 to 1.265 OAL.

One of the most common reasons not to fire is the primer not being seated all the way into the case. The primer firing depends on the anvil being held by the primer pocket base. The second strike sometimes moves the primer or stretches the primer face so that it fires. We are only talking about a couple of thousandths of an inch (.002") or so.

It also may have been a light strike on the primer.

    These are just possibilities.

Load up some more and see if it happens again.

    Congrats on your first reloads!

Did you check to see if the primer had a light strike?

I will keep an eye out for primer seating.
