    .308 load help

I am using winchester brass, rl 15, and sierra mk 175, wolf primers. 42-43 gr shoots awesome, but is only going 2300fps. 43.5gr and up shows overpressure signs. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I am at magazine length on my rem. 700 5r.

    Any ideas?

    Look for a slower powder.

if you like Alliant try RL-17 or maybe RL-19

This is from your 24" 5R barrel?
Have you double checked your velocity with another chronograph?

43.5grs of R15 showing signs of overpressure.. that sounds like too low a powder charge for overpressure with Win brass.

Are the outside of the case necks sooty after firing?

What overpressure signs? Some can be a sign of under-pressure.

Case necks not sooty. Signs were flattened primers and light ejector swipes. This is the only chrono I have and the velocities from it resulted in really good dope with my .223

People run 45 grains of RE-15 in Win brass with 175SMK's. What do you call overpressure signs? Sticky bolt? Light ejector swipes and flattened primers don't mean anything.

I know they won't go as fast as 150's, but if your 150 load is only going 2300, maybe they will

I need to try them out again with my chronograph, but I seem to recall more resistance than normal lifting the bolt, that's why I checked the brass closely.

Lyman has the max at 44.3gr... I've read about people saying they run more than that and that was why I was so surprised.

Flattened primers, ejector swipes and sticky bolt- don't worry? Jcat, wanna come try my next ones Perhaps I should have said beginning of signs?

Maybe I should open my Varget?

How far off the lands of the rifling are the bullets when loaded to mag length? If there is contact, that might be the problem. Maybe try loading a few rounds about .020" shorter than your current load and see if that changes anything.
