We went to lytle creek and my friend has a .50bmg. They told him he can't shoot regular .50bmg ammo anymore and has to use a special type of plastic bullet. They could not specify where to buy it tho. Anyone have any idea where to buy this stuff?

Plastic .50bmg???

there's blue plastic 'training' ammo... but I rarely see it for sale in bulk...
I can make 'frangible' .50BMG ammo too, but it's very expensive.
Despite the odd twist of logic... Lytle Creek does still permit .50DTC to be shot there.
You can shoot .50BMG up at www.angelesranges.com so long as it's not steel core.
The SoCal 50 Shooters meet there the 3rd Sunday of each month. Might be worth the drive.

I am still kicking myself for not buying 150 rounds of plastic training ammo a few years ago. If anyone has or finds some, I need one round for my collection. IF it's cheap enough, I'd take a bunch to shoot too!NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Robert (R.O) at lytle creek showed me the blue plastic 50bmg round that can be fired there and it looks trippy, the whole thing is plastic except for the very bottom where the primer is. He said that it leaves a nasty residue in the barrel (shards of plastic debris) after each shot and the guy shooting this stuff was having some kind of problem out of his windrunner. Supposedly it was expensive as well! something rediculous like $14 a shot but cant confirm the price. I would rather go to burro or out to some BLM land.Last edited by bcrich; 05-03-2010, 6:28 PM.Comment

$14/round? Someone got screwed! I passed on it for $189/150 rounds just two years ago!Robert (R.O) at lytle creek showed me the blue plastic 50bmg round that can be fired there and it looks trippy, the whole thing is plastic except for the very bottom where the primer is. If it was a new Windrunner, I'm willing to bet that the ammo had nothing to do with his problems. There have been a lot of QC issues with the latest EDMs that have gone out.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

I hear you on someone getting screwd for that price! when Robert told me what each round supposedly cost I told him I wouldnt be bringing my BMG around anymore. Anyway the dude with the windrunner had to clean out his barrel every time and blamed the ammo he didnt go into detail as to the problems but like you said maybe it was the rifle itself. $189 is what I paid for 150 talon surplus rounds when I first got my .50 back in the day.Comment

We called it SRT (short range training) ammo. We sed it all the time when I was stationed on Hawaii.SECRET//NOFORN

Forgot to add that I picked up a 1921 and 1925 50 BMG cases that are unfired. Just wish they hadn't taken them apart.50 BMG Shooters http://50-bmg.com/forum/index.phpComment

Which is totally different than "Limited Range Training Ammo".
Thanks, I still owe you for the Jacket and did I ever give you a LRT projo? I only bought a few but, if I didn't already give you one, I've got one for you.Last edited by CSACANNONEER; 05-05-2010, 5:15 PM.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

CSA,
Sorry, guess I traded the extra one off on another deal. I usually see them offered up for sale from time to time, next time I do I'll send you the link.
Not sure if I got the LRT, will check on it and let you know. We'll have to get together and see what we have and do some trading. Here's some of what I have.
