    Resealing ammo cans

I've been keeping my factory new ammo in the boxes, stored in surplus ammo cans. I keep one or two of these rechargeable desiccants in each can.

The desiccants in some of the cans will stay blue (dry) for months, while others will will turn pink in less than a month.

I'm assuming that some of the cans have bad lid seals / gaskets. I've even tried covering the cans with a plastic bag, but that doesn't seem to help much.

Does anyone know of options to replace the gasket? I've search the forums and via Google, but can't seem to find any answers (only a few asking the same question).

Has anyone had any success fixing the seal?

Just buy a new can, small ones are 5 bucks or dont use ammo cans. If you are constantly opening them maybe a different storage solution is in order. I only use ammo cans for bulk loose storage. For storage around the house and transport I use a duffle.

You can try a Q-Tip with Automatic Transmission fluid. Clean and coat the seals it will cause them to swell a little. Leave open for an hour or so. Then test again. I used to do this to window seals on old cars to restore the rubber and keep them from leaking in the rain.

This stuff is the best seal restorer on the market:

I got mine at the local BMW dealer.
