    reloading berdan primed ammo

i have some surplus 7.62x39 yugo military ammo in brass cases. they are berdan primed. should i be saving the cases to reload with boxer primers, or is the berdan primer integral to the case? sorry for the dumb question, my reloding manual should be here monday. I just want to make sure i'm not chucking good brass.

Berdan cases are not reloadable. I heard there is a way to reload Berdan cases but it's not easy, not worth your time nor can you find the Berdan primers. don't chuck them, save them to sell for scrap metal. brass is worth some $ i believe.

my title may have been a little misleading. the question is, can you use boxer primers in cases that were originally berdan primed?

No you cannot. Berdan primer doesn't have an anvil. The anvil is part of the case. Boxer primer wont' fit. I tried 17 years ago when I first started.

brent, you wouldn't happen to have 308 berdan cases would you? if so I would buy/trade you for them. I need brass berdan 308 to make dummy rounds and don't want to waste my boxer cases.

People have removed the hammer from a berdan case by slowing pressing it into a decapping die. Although quite a waste of time with wolf at $200 a case.

I have some berdan .308. PM me how many pieces you think you need and I will check my stash.

Some berdan cases can be reworked to boxer, but it is not worth the effort for easily obtained boxer brass -- IF, the berdan primer is a "small" rifle size, less than .210", it can often be reworked to accept boxer large rifle primers.
6.5 and 7.35 carcano are two examples -- I am not familar with the size of the 7.62x39 berdan primer --
There are a number of different diameters of Berdan primers, unlike the two diameters of boxer primers --excluding 50 cal M.G. -- my ha-penny
