    reloading list

Finally decided to shell out cash for reloading (which I should have done sooner). Mostly to shoot more .45acp for matches. I finally decided to "cry once, buy once" on equipment.

I decided to go with a Dillon XL650 from eguns.com

Anything else needed (or not needed) on this list to get me going? I appreciate the input.
    • XL650
    • XL650 spare parts kit
    • .45 carbide set
    • powder check alarm
    • strong mounts
    • bullet tray
    • low powder sensor
    • handgun case gauge
    • electronic scale
    • flip tray
    • digital caliper
    • kinetic bullet puller
    • CV-750 case cleaner
    • CM-500 separator
    • Media/polish/lube/etc.
    • Powder/primers/bullets
    • Lyman Handbook

That about sums it up, but ouch, that will be expensive.

If you want to save a few a bucks then you could do without the bullet tray. Strong mounts are only needed if you want to load standing up. I mounted my press right to my bench and it's the perfect height for sitting on a bar seat/stool.

Also the spare parts kit isn't a necessity as Dillon will send you anything if something breaks. It is nice to have though, I have one.

Also a beam scale works fine if you want to spend a little less. Dillon's beam scale is really nice.

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to modify my list.

I will have to use a loading table (like one from MidwayUSA) because of space limitations. My bench is long gone.

Thanks Dexter, maybe I will go with the 550 And that list to save some cash on reloading components.

                Don't do it.
                Stay with the 650.
                MUCH nicer setup.

I started with a 550 and now have 3 of them.
                Once I got a 650, I barely ever use a 550 anymore.
                I have 2 650's now.
                I also have 2 1050's dedicated to loading just 9mm and 223.
I also have a 450 that I use for case forming.
That's 8 dillon presses in total.
Now that you know my background, you can see where I am coming from when I say to get the 650.

Thanks Randall. I trust your judgement. I've read your reloading thread a few times and it was the main reason I wanted the 650 FIRST. I'll have to stick to my first instinct.

                    Hey now...

Don't forget that Case feeder for the XL650.

I love the 550B and I use it for 357 Mag, 44 Mag, 223 REM, 38 Spl and also have spare dies & caliber conv. for 9mm & 45ACP.

                    That said, I have 2 XL650's, 1 for 9mm and 1 for 45 ACP.
I added the Dillon strong mount stand, Aluminum roller lever, bullet tray, powder check alarm, low powder sensor and case feeder. One other upgrade I did was get the Redding comp seater for each machine as well. I can easily adjust for each bullet/OAL.

Back when me and Mrs LGB used to burn through alot of ammo, large batches of ammo assembly was not a problem. They now sit idle more than they should but it is always great knowing that if I need 500 rounds, it's just 30 minutes or so away.

Is the case feeder worth it?

                      (I guess I shouldn't ask that, huh?)

Other than a flip tray, Lyman book, case gauge, reloading components, and a case feeder... am I missing anything here?

eguns.com's website is slow as *&#%!

Skip the low powder sensor and yes, you need the casefeeder.
Specifically, you need the one for large pistol.

Personally I don't know why ppl buy the roller handle. I actually prefer the ball handle since it's what I always used with my Rock Chucker before I got the 650. It simply works..

At about 800 rounds with the ball handle, my hand starts to get sore.
I don't get this with the roller handle though.

Of course I rarely load 800 rounds in one sitting.

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised if you tried the roller handle. It makes loading so much easier and more comfortable. Definitely worth the cost of it IMO.
