Hi, I just purchased a Redding 2 die set (full length sizing die and bullet seating die). Now this is not one of those expensive ones, its actually like $37. Now I am having trouble when I full length size the case, the case mouth is a little too narrow for my K&M flash hole uniformer and the uniformer will not fit through the case mouth after it has been resized. I am a bit confused because when I used my hornady full length sizing die (until it broke), I would be able to fit the flash hole uniformer into the case mouth. So my question is how can I make it so the Redding die makes the mouth big enough for the flash hole uniformer? Also, another question is wouldn't the smaller diameter of the case mouth mean its going to have more tension when I seat the bullet? I don't understand this inconsistency!

We are talking about a .223 die. I have been trying to research this problem and I think when I bought the kit, the size button was missing, so I am just going to buy a new decapping assembly. I am thinking of buying the tapered rod assembly for $24 from redding-reloading.com but I am not sure how to order from them. Do you have any clue how?Comment

Get onto the Redding site and e mail them with what you explained here and about not having an epanding button in your die. They will likely send you a free expander. No need to buy a whole decapping unit since all you need is a .224 expander button.
Go that route first before you buy anything. Have your die box with you and give them the product number of the dies you bought.
Here's their contact page:
I can't tell you how many times I've contacted companies regarding a product I broke and they have sent free replacement parts. RCBS is a company that does that.
Good luck.Comment

How about just deburring the flash holes before you resize?
You do need an expander button too though as the die purposely over-sizes the brass and then the expander opens it back up to proper diameter.
The thickness of the brass varies greatly.
The die is undersized because it has to be able to size the thinnest brass down small enough to hold a bullet.
So when you use thicker brass, it gets sized down even more.
The expander expands all brass back to the same inside diameter though.Last edited by ar15barrels; 04-27-2010, 9:32 AM.Randall Rausch
