    Ammo "situation"

About a year or so ago, I was one of the guys getting up early, or stopping by walmart on my way to work to try to "score" some ammo.. That got old after a while, and since I haven't done much shooting lately, I kind of stopped looking. I stopped by walmart yesterday afternoon and decided to swing by the ammo section, and while there were no common handgun calibers, there were about 6 bricks of .22lr and just about every rifle caliber was in stock. I RARELY saw any .22lr back in the day, and when I did, it was gone within an hour of the store opening so seemed like a good sign. Is it any easier to find common caliber ammo (9, 40, 45) that it was about 1-1.5 years ago?

btw, i picked up a couple of the .22lr. I just couldn't pass them up.

I've had no issues for the last 3 years finding ammo its just how much you want to spend. There are about a dozen ammo sources online and if you just buy in bulk, you can save local tax as well as shipping is anywhere from 6-8 bucks up to 35-40 for 1k rounds of .308 or something large like that. Keep shopping online and buy in larger than 250 at a pop and it makes it VERY worthwhile.

I know plenty of online sources for decent priced ammo, and I have bought online numerous times. I am just using walmart as an example to see if anything has changed. For example, do people still line up at 6 am before they start selling ammo so they can have first pick? I'm just curious.

I saw bulk 22lr at ammo last night but I left it there since they raised the price up to just under $19 for a box

To answer your question, yes, it is much easier to find 9, 40, and 45 than about a year ago. I don't shop at walmart, so I don't know about that, but the online stores that I buy from have plenty in stock, where as a year ago it was harder to find. But once these new laws pass and we can't order handgun ammo online any more, then things are going to get worse than they ever were IMO.
You should really look into reloading.

Yes walmart is getting regular shipments now of 9,45,40,223. 38/357 is still rare. Don't see 380 too often. But 'getting better' means that instead of it coming in once every 10 days and being gone within 2 hrs, it's coming in every 4-5 days and being gone in 4 hours to 1.5 days depending on how much comes in.

I'm seeing more 38spl too. Just yesterday I bought 2 boxes of 38spl at WM in Foothill Ranch. They even had a 100 round box of 357mag for $45.

Today, Bass Pro in Rancho Cucamonga had plenty of 9mm and some 38 spl. I bought 3 boxes of 9mm for $15 each.

                I bought a box of 357mag for a buddy for $28 too.

People still buy ammo? Every range is picked clean of brass. I thought everyone reloads now.

I never ran out......but then I never expected Walmart to warehouse my ammo for me.

I'm glad you never ran out... this has nothing to do with the topic though.

I went to walmart around 9 30 this morning and they had a crap ton of ammo, including about 6 bricks of federal .22lr and some cci minimags.. No 9mm or 45, but they had just about everything else. It seems the ammo scare is sure dying down, at least for now. I even saw about 6 of the WWB .380, but someone scooped those up.

Went & fill up the gas tank at Costco in Santee earlier today. Afterward, I stopped at the Walmart across the street. Ammo case was pretty empty of any handgun calibers. Plenty of rifle, shotgun, etc. None of the popular calibers, .380, 9mm, 38 /357, 45acp, 40, etc....No 22 Federal 550 packs.

I think the word is out that Wally's is the cheapest in town when they have it in stock. Yes there's other retail / online dealers with ammo but everyone (including me) is always looking for the deal.

I'm hoping (like allot of others) that AB962 gets dumped. If not, I think the "cheap" ammo situation is going to get worst, allot worst. We'll see !!!!!!!!!

The word may be out, but walmart seems to have a lot more ammo than they did about a year ago. I have seen .22lr bricks in stock 2x now in the past week.. I used to never see any unless I was there at 6am. 30-30 seems to always be in stock, that was also hit and miss for me a while ago.

A few days ago I went to the Wally in Ceres and they had a good amount of 9mm and .22LR. No .38's tho
