    Primer Fizzle?

Has anyone ever seen a primer fizzle? I had a issue with some Wolf small rifle primers. The primer burned but failed to ignite the powder or even dislodge the bullet from the case. After I disassembled the defective .223 I found burn residue on the primer but no powder burned at all. Ever hear of this? This was a factory sealed pack so no possibility of contamination at my end.

    Any ideas?

Maybe it was crushed upon insertion into the case or not enough priming compound was put into it. It could have been somehow contaminated beforehand or during storage.....moisture..............

Was it your reload? Primer pocket plugged maybe?

Yeah it was my own reload. I don't get how it could burn and not ignite the powder.

Well, a peice of corn media you could have missed, could have obstructed the flash hole, thus this outcome

I only use this really fine walnut media that is many times smaller than the flash hole. There wasn't even a "pop" when the trigger was pulled but something burned. When I disassembled the defective rounds there wasn't any foreign debris to be seen. I'm very perplexed.

The high percentage of hang fires was kind of unnerving too.

Call Wolf. They had some issues like this with some SP primers. They will give you new ones or refund your money.
