I have an RL 550B with the .223 die set and conversion set. Is there anything else that I need? I want to reload .223 Any suggestions on where to buy bullets, brass, primer, and powders? I'm trying to get the cheapest per bullet, and the main purpose is just for target practice.

Need Help Reloading .223

You need a powder scale to set your measure and a way to clean the brass after a couple of reloads (a tumbler or vibratory cleaner with cleaning media)
Later you will need a case trimmer and primer pocket cleaner.
Your best bet on components is to get on one of the group buys on the board here for surplus powder. Get 8 Lbs for $88 and split the shipping and HazMat fees among a group of people.
You can also buy bulk surplus bullets try doing a Google search for them. Primers are also best bought on line from www.powdervalleyinc.com and other online vendors. Again try to get involved with a group buy to split the costs.Frank

Also a digital caliper....to measure OAL. Buy a Wilson case gage to check proper sizing and head space.

That actually brings up a pretty good point. My reloading has focused primarily on building up precision loads for .223 and .308. But with .223 prices as high as they are these days, what about 55gr plinking ammo?
Does anyone have any good setups for inexpensive .223 pinking ammo?--BrandoComment

I am an idiot!
Much, much more important than any equipment needed is that you should first go out and buy a good reloading manual and read the section on reloading basics and precautions. Then go to the gunpowder manufaturer's website and print out the 223 reloading data to double check your manual's information.Frank

You will only need to use a small base sizing die if and only if your regular full length resizing die, when properly adjusted (screw down until it hits ram, drop ram, and screw down another turn at most), and the brass still does not pass a headspace gauge (or chamber in your rifle).
This rarely happens, and when it does, it is caused by brass shot from very loose chambers.

I use BL-C2 from Hodgdon because it works for both 223 and 308. For a plinking round I use the lee dipper that came with the lee dies. IIRC, it's 24 grains for the 223. It is an average load for the 55gn bullet. Use are your own discretion. That actually brings up a pretty good point.
