New to Reloading, Would like your opinion regarding this kit...

Hey guys, I am planning on getting into reloading. I will be buying a guide this friday but have been browsing the internet for some deals on kits.

Found this RCBS kit and was wondering if you guys think this would be a good starter. I would like to keep the initial cost down, but don't mind spending more if it will benefit me in the long run. I don't want a progressive press, want to start with the single stage and use that for a while. After I get the hang of things I may upgrade to a progressive.

I will probably find the answer to this in a guide...I heard that case lube is not required if using carbide dies. Is it worth getting carbide dies in order to avoid case lubrication?

I have a partner press and it is fine but small. A larger press is much better and will last you forever.

I would buy that instead. It is worth it to get carbide dies for your pistol rounds because lubing would be a PITA

Consider this kit also http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=423081. Add a couple of reloading manuals, a good set of calipers and maybe a better scale. If you're reloading for a rifle (bottle necks) you will still need to use lube.

stay away from the Lee kit,the powder measure is pretty low quality, and the scale is not real friendly, I got a complete Lee kit for less than 100 bucks ,the press is fine, the hand priming tool is great, you get a powder funnel and a lube pad and lube, which alone are worth 100 bucks,I have loaded about 500 rounds of mixed rifle and hand gun ammo,the powder measure leaks a little powder.Get the RCBS rockchucker kit with scale and powder measure,very high quality that will last a lifetime.I have had good customer support from them too.

I personally own the Lyman and the RCBS (the larger one, not the one in your post), and both are great. I like the Lee press as well, but the rest of the Lee stuff I don't care for. I do like their carbide 3 die sets.

i want to get into reloading too since i go through a lot of .223 paying almost $.50 a shot... i have barely looked into what to get. id love to learn more about ballistics and such too so why not reload? any suggestions on equipment?i can drop about 800$ also what do you think the average cost per shot of decent grade reload of .223 for plinking i can get out of reloading?

If you have that kind of money to drop go with either a Dillon or a Hornady. Those will be well under your $800 price range.

As for 223 cost, if you have your own brass already you can shoot for about $0.18-$0.20 per round. Wont be match grade but it will be better than cheap bulk 223 off the shelf.

well if its not necessary ill spend a few hundred... plus i have time to kill so slower pressing compared to the fast ones is not an issue..although probably repetitve and annoying
