Beginner looking for info...

Hi all,

Been shooting for a while and have been thinking of getting into reloading.

I'll be mostly doing 9x19 stuff for myself and maybe a few buddies, but I would like to be able to handle most of the common pistol calibers with the same general equipment.....

I really don't know much about it, so I could use a few good book recommendations and I am keeping my eyes open for a beginner class somewhere.....I used to see classes and think why bother, now I am thinking about it and I have not seen much being offered.


What kinda of equipment do I need, any good starter kits I might want to look at? I notice Midway has a promo going that might make the purchase price a bit easier and they have several setups but I don't know enough to know what I am looking at yet....What kind of initial costs am I looking at? My primary motivation is just for learning and fun and I don't really expect to save a whole lot but I am curious what typical reloads cost compared to say walmart prices.

Darren before you buy any reloading equipment, please get a couple of reloading manuals they will answer most all of your questions.

yes that is my plan....I also just found a class being offered at a shop not too far away, so I plan to check that out.

There are a lot of great started kits out there. I like the single stage press by RCBS and the Lee Classic Turret from Lee.

It really just depends on how much you shoot and how fast you want to be able to load them. On a single stage press you can load about 50 rounds per hour. On a progressive press you could load hundreds of rounds per hour.

The ABC's of Reloading is a good book.

I reload 9mm for around $6 per 50 rounds.
