45 bullets

I have some 200 gr. .45 lead bullets that mic at .454 . Can they safely be shot thru my Vaquero? Thanks.

properly loaded you should have no problem assuming your gun is .45 colt and loaded conservatively

It is .45 colt. i also have a .45 acp cylinder for it. Would the bullets be ok in a 1911 or a HK,Thanks

You dont mention witch version of the vaquero you have , The early vaqeros built on the large blackhawk frame are very strong and will safely handle a very potent load.
They did however suffer from having undersize cylinder mouths that will measure as small as .449 , I have 2 ruger 45 colts that I opened the cylinder mouths to .4525 and a older one were they measure .454. You may want to check yours and if they are undersize contact http://www.cylindersmith.com/ and have them opened up to .4525 for cast bullet shooting. I did my own before this inexspensive service was availible
With a bore of .451 witch is typical of the rugers you want a cylinder throat of .4525 and a bullet of cast bullet .452 .
This will result of bullet being fired at .452 and obturation to .4525 in the cylinder mouth and the swagged down .451 for a proper seal in the bore , shot at the correct pressure for the hardness of the bullet there will be virtually no leading.
In the early days of 45 colt the barrels measure .454 and so did the cylinder mouths and a bullet of .454 was the correct choice .
With how cheap you can buy cast bullets I would pass on shooting those through my 45 colts .

I have the early Vaquero, and i have a thousands of these bullets!

If i had thousands of those bullets I would check the size of the cylinder throats and then run the bullets through

a pic of the bullet would help i got some 200 grain ones that work great in revolvers but jam in all my automatics

.454 often is not too big for many automatic pistols i would not recomend lead bullets be used in polygonal type rifled barrels be they hk/glock/baby eagle or many others

I checked the cylinders and they measure .453-.454 at the barrel end of the cylinder. Thanks .
