    Need Advice - Ammo Collection

    Hi Guys,

I need some advice and direction. I inherited my father's ammo collection of 30+ years. The colloection has a variety of items from 500 Nitro Express to Liliput rounds, singles and boxes, etc. I know it has some value to the right person and I'd like to sell it.

What are the best places to offer this stuff for sale. Are there ammo dealers, who would take this on consignment or am I better off going to an "Ammo Collectors" show and trying to sell everything. I checked out gunbroker and there doesn't seem to be a lot of bidders for collectors ammo.

Any help, advice, links, would be appreciated. PM's or replys are most welcome.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Post to the for sale thread here. That's a good start. (and it's free)

It is hard to sell but, some rounds can be worth big bucks to the right person. If you want to take the time and can find an Ammo Collector's show, go to it. It should be a great educational opertunity. I have never been to one and really have no idea on pricing but, I let my stepson start collecting range pick up brass and it quickly ended up becoming more than that. He started buying different rounds at gunshows and paying whatever he thought was worth his interest in the pieces. I have inherited his collection and added a few interesting rounds to it without spending more than $10 per round. So, I would be interested in seeing what you have and maybe picking up a few pieces too. I don't have a 500 NE and I would like one for my .50cal collection. So, feel free to PM me with pictures and prices if you want to.

I'm with CSA, I'm always looking for something to add to my .50 collection. The other place you can try is Cartridge Collectors Assn. http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/

I would possibly be interested in it depending on what you have.

              Hi Gentleman,

Thanks for the suggestions and the offers to purchase individual items. Yesterday, I started going through the boxes to classify and sort through the items I have.

The ammo collection is large and quite extensive. I am in the process of cataloging it now into an Exel spread sheet. The collection includes many rare and very hard to get items. Over 200 individual caliber types are represented, some selling elsewhere for over $100.00 per round. Plus I have many old original boxes which include everything from shotgun shells to 22 rimfire.

Buying this would be a perfect chance for someone to establish an, "Instant Collection" I estimate the collection selling value at around $5-6,000. If anyone knows a serious buyer in that price range, by all means, please refer them to me.

I beginning to agree with some of you, that the best place to sell collection this may be a dedicated ammunition collectors show, perhaps at auction. I'm going to explore this option. If I can find a cash buyer now, of course that would be easier for me.

Doing research, I was more than a little amused to discover that the California Cartridge Collectors Association holds their annual show in Reno Nevada!!! I don't know if it's because they like Reno or because they fear the interference of the officials of the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. I've been to Reno myself, so I suspect it's the latter. Their next show is in June. So I just may be making the very long drive from LA.

Thank you all, for your help and advice,

              Kevin

The CA Cart. Collectors Show used to be in CA, I think here in SoCal down by Long Beach. They probably changed so that they could include cartridges that can't be sold here in CA.

I wouldn't mind going to the one in June but I don't know if it's worth the drive. Plus if I bought something that I couldn't have here I would have to find the closest UPS hub to mail it from.
