    Powered Trimmers

While I reload for quality, not quantity, the volume of .223 and .308 cases I go through in one sitting has been steadily increasing and my wrist isn't enjoying the case trimming and deburing process. Natually I've been looking at powered trimmers but thought I'd ask for recommendations. Anyone have any?

The Giraud is probably the best consumer power trimmer. The prices just went up though, or are going up. The old price is $365. It's supposed to increase.

Yup, I was looking at that particular trimmer. Even though it's pricey, it appears to handle chamfering and deburing as well (and the meplat trimming option is...interesting).

I use the Possum Hollow trimmer (from Sinclair Int'l) in a drill press/cordless drill/screwdriver. You have to chamfer/debur seperately, but you can spin those with a motor too.

I've the Dillon power trimmer, it works pretty slick. I use it on my RockChucker but plan to set it up on my 650 in the near future, as the case feeder will make it be a big help, time wise. Another option is the Gracey trimmer, (http://www.matchprep.com/trimmer.htm). Not to bad of a price either.

Meplat is one of my favorite words related to shooting. No idea why, other than it sounds too strange to have an actual meaning.

            Just thought I'd share.

I've heard great things about the Giraud. The price has always been a deterent, but while I'm turning the hand crank on my RCBS, I always find myself wondering if it isn't worth it...or at least adapting a power drill.

I've used the Possum Hollow trimmers for .223 and .308, but they've always been inconsistent and a bitch to adjust.

The Giraud may be pricey, but you get over it after you trim the first thousand cases.

It's actually not a bad price once you've used it a couple of times, the quality is there.

                  +1 on the Dillon trimmer.

I did a 5 gal bucket of 223 (4500-4800 pieces) in about 4 hours on my 650 last weekend. Very slick. I used an RCBS die to partially size and de-cap then the Dillon for the final size and trim. Machine ran very smooth and quickly with the 2 step sizing.

It is a bit noisy with the trimmer and vacuum running at the same time so wear ear plugs.
                  where are my pistol mags?

Giraud hands down. I've had mine for 6 or 7 years. Maybe longer. Trimmed around 10K-15K 223 cases and still on the first cutting edge of the 9 edge cutter blade. It will probably outlast me.

I reload 2000-3000 cases a month of various calibers - NOT including my 223 for HP. I have case holders for all of them and 4 preset cutting blades. After using the Giraud I wouldn't even think of trying another.

Here's a short video, done slowly, so you can see how it works. It trims, chamfers and deburrs all in one quick easy step. If you can use an electric pencil sharpener you can use a Giraud.
