    POWDER GROUP BUY Bay area

    Hey everyone~

I recently got back into the reloading biz and am in need of some new/better powder. I'm currently loading 7.62x39, .223, 7mm mag, and could do some .40cal.

I've been using IMR 4895 for both the .223 and 7.62. I also used some Winchester 748 in the .223.

Anyway! I'm looking for a powder that is good for plinking, that I can use for both. Is there such a beast?

I've never done a group buy, so I was hoping someone would give some insight or offer their past experience with one. I really don't know where to get started. Does anyone have the leg work done already?

    Thanks!

Bay Area reloading components group buy?

This may be a dead thread, but I'm game for a group buy for Winchester 748. I want to start loading 223 and 308 and I have recipes for both of those rounds from the Winchester website: www.wwpowder.com Or whatever powder works for both!

Also, I need some small rifle powders. I can use that for my .40S&W loads.

The action shooting season is already upon us! Time to stock up and crank out the rounds!

I'll be in for some gun powder group buy. I need powder for .223, .308 & 30.06. I believe that most places don't offer discounts on gunpowder GB but we can save ourselves about $20.00-30.00 on Hazmat and shipping fees (if we get up to 48 lbs. and also shipped to one location).

Go to www.hodgdon.com and look up each cartridge that you want to load for. It will give you a long list of loads with different powders and you can compare right there which powders will work in which cartridges.

Good for both 223(55gr) and 762x39.... VihtaVuori N120.... good performance, very clean powder (not the cheapest tho)

http://www.powdervalleyinc.com got some of the BEST prices.... and they've got almost EVERYTHING....

Since most people will want different things, so, you probably won't be able to get to the volume that you will get "group buy" discount...

So, your best bet is, just bundle an order with guys in your local area... and just save some shipping/hazmat $$...

Good for both .223 and .308.... VihtaVuori N130, N135, N140 (depending on what bullet wt.).... I love VV powder..... good performance, very clean powder (not the cheapest tho)

[almost just cut&paste from my last post]

Ramshot TAC will also work great for .223 and .308.... and it is cheaper... and less choices (ie. 1 powder will work for many bullet wt...).... BUT.... it is *dirty*!!

Surplus powder www.Gibrass, widners reloading, pats reloading, 48 pounds max with one haz mat charge. Wcc 846 is good for 223 308, but is sold out most places. BLc2 also is a good choice for both 223 308. 40 S&W you'll need pistol powder will not work in rifle (unless you use a reduced charge for cast bullets) etc... Unique is a good choice for the 40 S&W. Surplus powder is the cheapest but not always in stock canister powder are mor expensive but almost always in stock... prices differ between $68-$99 for 8 pounds surplus to about $115-$140 for canister powder. I've used many powders in the 223 and 308.. 4895 4064 RL15 BLC2 3031 1680 2230 2460 4198 wc 846 wc 844 748 760 I've never used ramshot or VV powder but I'd like to try them. Maybe I can get some free samples. LOL B2B

I'd be in for some. I need powder for .223, .308, and 7.62X39.

                    Where is everyone logistically?

You're in Hawaii. Are you gonna fly to the SF Bay Area and return with smokeless powder in your luggage?

I just heard from someone that Hi-Tech Ammo (their website is down) pays for the $20 Haz Mat fee if you buy four 8lbs kegs of powder. Is that true? If so, I'm down for IMR 4895 and 4320.

Where is everyone logistically? I'm in the East Bay. We should have the components shipped to one person and everyone who is in on the buy go there make payment, and pick up your order.

Ok, this is a question to the other reloading calgunners, which reloading vendors will pay the $20 hazmat fee IF an order is at a certain size, say 32 or 64 lbs of powder?

How's about a group buy for Winchester 846 (will work for both .223 & .308) from Pat's Reloading? His 8lb jugs of WC846 is @ $99.99 + shipping and Hazmat fees. According to his website "Get 4 to 6 units of Any types 844 or 846 and get HM Discount". I'm in the Peninsula South of SF.
