Hey everyone. I hope I can word this to keep it from turning into a .223 is or isn't 5.56. I reload .308 and 30-06. Comercial brass for the .308 and Milsurp for the 30-06. I'm building an ar-15 with a 5.56 barrell. I know Lake city brass is some pretty thick/heavy stuff, but my question is this. Is 5.56 in PMC or Privi thicker/heavier than the .223 of the same company. I have to buy some ammo to get my brass and I was just wondering about this. since they will be hand rolled I don't think my pressures will be as high as Lake City loads but I do want to start off with the tougher brass to get the most use out of it. Thanks Jim

They say the harder the brass the fewer times you can reload it, that is why people prefer commercial brass, I beleive. I am pretty sure all manufactures anneal their brass, its just that LC does not repolish afterwards.
Its logical to think that 5.56 would be thicker than commercial but typically its more expensive as well. Just buy some brass and load. I still havent loaded more than 3x per case and I shoot a lot.Comment

For me I like LC over anything else, just my favorite I guess. Also most LC cases are annealed which tend to last longer from what I remember reading.
