    M1 Garand loads

Hi everyone: I;m going to start reloading for my Garand and using Sierra 150 gr. HPBT bullets, my question is that if I load to 3.340 overall length the bullet only has about 1/8 inch holding it in the case, I have read everything from 3.180 OAL to 3.340 OAL, I would like to know what you all load for OAL in 150 gr. and 168 gr. HPBT bullets. and a special thanks to scr83jp for his info in the 1986 American Rifleman load data that says to use 3.340 OAL and the other websites for the M1, Thanks, Joe.

I'm at about the same point in my Garand reloading quest. I've only done about 10 rounds so far, and haven't had a chance to give'em a try. Here's what I've got...

    Brass: HXP 69
    Primer: CCI #200
Powder: IMR 4064 (48gr) - starting load, will work up.
Bullet: Sierra 150gr Spitzer (flat base, soft point...)
OAL: 3.224, same as my milsurp HXP.

I'm going to do a load of 47gr powder, 47.5, and 48.5... and so on, until I find a load that works and doesn't go over max shown in the manuals.

I'm a newbie to this, so I'm starting off slow. I have much learning to do!

    Good luck!

Doesn't the Sierra manual have military duplication load data?

I thought I remembered hearing that somewhere...

I don't know about Sierra, but the Hornady manual does have a section on reloading for the Garand.
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

I second that. You can't go wrong loading for the M1 from the Hornady manual.

I dont use HPBT bullets for my Garand . Im using 150 gr FMJ Speers and the C.O.L is 3.260. IMR 4064 is a great powder for Garand loads and im using 48.0 grs for the 150s
