Hi all I'm looking at the 55 grain FMJ-BT bullets at Midwayusa and I'm trying to find load data for these, any suggestions? I was thinking about just using the load data from the Hornady book but I would like to use the manufactures specs if possible.

Look away from those bullets. Accuracy is not good man. Check out the Hornady 55gr FMJ or SP bullets instead.

I wanted to get those Hornady but Midway doesn't have any of them in stock and I wanted to combine a buncha stuff in one order.

What powder are you planning on using?

I'd cross reference what the powder company says with the Hornady manual to figure out a start load and work up from there. No need to push it to near max since these are cheep plinking bullets.

Lately just for trigger time I've been using alot of cheep bullets, range brass, and TAC. Accuracy is 4 moa on a good day.

I see, that makes sense. Well I will tell you that I could not group better than 2-3 inches at 100 yards. If that does not sound too bad go for it.

I like to use H335 for my 55gr bullets. 24.5gr is a happy medium that seems to work in all my rifles as well as my buddies.

Plinking round using a CCI 400 SRP 24.5grn of Tac Ramshot with 2.250" OAL

Plinking round using a CCI 400 SRP 25grn H335 with 2.250" OAL

Plinking round using S&B SPR 24grn H322 with 2.250" OAL

All have worked well for plinking up to 300 yards, I am not much a MOA person myself I do fine with Center Mass.

I would do several batches and test out which one you feel most comfortable with. Start off with 23.5 grn and move up .5 grn and go from there, just be careful with what you are doing. Have fun and be safe,

FYI

5th addition Sierra manual says the Varget start load is 25.1 and max load is 27.2

Hodgdon site lists start load at 25.5 and max at 27.5

If you're looking for an inexpensive bullet, you might want to look at Montana Gold. I've been getting 1/2 groups.

For generic reloading data, get Modern Reloading by Richard Lee. It's only fifteen bucks.

Varget is my favorite powder but 23.7 sounds a bit low. I'd start at least at 25gr. Be warned though, with thicker military brass you could hit a compressed load near the max load. Not a big deal as long as you watch for pressure signs but something to keep in mind.
