Recommend me some .22LR ammo

I've always fed my 10/22 CCI Mini-Mag, but the stuff's getting harder to find these days. What other .22LR brands do folks here recommend for high-volume plinking? Any specific ones I should avoid?

The Federal stuff has worked for me in all my guns almost flawlessly. Same with the Remington Gold Bullet. The American Eagle lead round nose stuff is good (made by Federal) I've had problems with Winchester though. Pretty much all of it is decent quality, and if you find one that works particularly will in your 10/22, then you should stick with it.

On a side note: you've really only shot mini-mags? Aren't those somewhere around 8 bucks for a hundred? That's one expensive .22lr.

This might sound odd but Wolf brand 22lr match ammo is very good stuff. I have tested it and was very surprised by the accuracy. I know a lot of guys who use them in matches. I have myself and they performed great.

Yup, wolf match ammo is great but too expensive for regular plinking.

For plinking it really depends on what your gun feeds well and is reasonably accurate with. I plink with every kind of cheap ammo with the exception being Remignton stuff (thunderbolts, Golden Bullets). Federal (525/550/AM/510), Winchester (333/555), and CCI Blazer are some of my top picks for plinking ammo as its decently priced and readily available.

all i shoot are cci blazer, federal, and winchester super-x out of my 10/22

since all i plink, i don't buy ammo that cost more than .04cents a round

any 22LR that you can find. You cant do much with 22LR. If your going for match, then Wolf is good.

The only stuff I might avoid would be Remington Thunderbolts. Many .22 shooters have experienced horrible leading with that ammo. It was especially prevalant to see this issue on the MKII/III boards, and I've read of the issue with other .22s as well. My MkII had issues with Remington Thunderbolts and leading. You might also want to search the rimfire forum, as there was a thread pertaining to Armscor .22LR and case failures.

+1 I've have had just awful experience with Remington 22lr ammo of all kinds. Every mag or two would have a round that failed to go off.

I avoid Remington .22 ammo. I just experience more problems with them in my 10/22s. I have been having good luck with Winchester Dynapoints.

I only use solid 40 gr. copper plated CCI Mini Mags and Fiocchi. I have a standing back order of 5k rounds ($5.??/100) of CCI with Midsouth Shooters. They have the best pricing for the said. I buy the Fiocchi from Ammo To Go. It's priced really well and shoots great for me.

Moments ago . . . I received an e-mail from Natchez Shooters Supply that they have received another shipment of the CCI. They are a bid pricier at $6.69/100. However, I buy it from where it's available. I go through a lot of 22lr.

Edit: I would like to try some of the bulk stuff like the Rem GBs, but I cannot find that around here.

My Ruger 10/22 likes Remington GB, Fed 525/550, Winchester 555.

Just thought I would throw this info out there. Remington golden bullets are prone to misfires because of there priming. I experienced lots of misfires with them. The ones that didn't go off. I pulled the bullets on them and found that the priming mixture didn't go all the way around in the rim. reclocking the bullet in the chamber and firing it again will make them work. I avoid all Remington 22 ammo now because of this.

I have alot of misfires with the Remington bulk packs, more so than federal bulk packs...but both get the job done. When I dont mind throwing the big bucks for .22lr I buy CCI mini mag or stinger.
