    +1 Blue Koolaid drinker

Last week I posted my laments about the Lee Loadmaster I had just received. I encountered every one of the usual problems that people post about this press and probably even a few new ones. Fed up, I ordered a Dillon XL650. Finished up the assembly today and immediately cranked out 100 trouble-free perfectly uniform 45 ACP rounds in about 10 minutes. With the Lee the most I was able to crank out without having to stop for a major readjustment or part replacement was 20 or 25.

As many others have noted, it's difficult to overstate how superior the Dillon unit is both in terms of build quality and design. Once set up, it works smoothly and indexes crisply so you can focus on the ammo and not the machine. It's worth the extra dough.

No, I'm not a Dillon employee, just a happy reloader (finally).

I was loading with a pro 1000 and yeah it made 45acp rounds....

Last week I got a deal from a friend on a rl 550b, I started laughing at how easy it was. Yeah the pro 1000 had a "case feeder" and was auto indexing but neither of those worked great, and holy crap was priming easy.

      I too say +1

I ordered my XL 650 setup from Brian Enos yesterday.

By this time next week, I expect to be putting all that brass I've been saving to good use!

I've never reloaded before, and thought, briefly, of getting a cheapie Lee setup to "learn on." After reading all the posts of others' woes, I decided instead to spend the "learning" budget, and more on some top of the line gear and do it right from the start.

        So. . . .am I blue, too???

You will be happy with your new Dillon. I got rid of all my non Dillon dies, tumbler, scale and went BLUE all the way.

I only have tried the Blue Koolaid. It make the first time reloading experiance very easy IMO. I am using the 550B.

Oh, and the Dillon tumbler is awesome and cleans the brass pretty quick. I use pet store walnut media, Nu-Finish car wax and they are nice and shinny in two hours or less.

The only thing I went cheap on was the media seperator which is a mop bucket and a pasta strainer (less than $10 from Target).

Heheh, same here, I'm currently using a 5-gallon bucket and a big-*** collander for draining noodles and such.

I'm discovering that making ammo with the 650 is almost as addictive as shooting and buying firearms. I work at home, and since i got the thing set up this morning there have been at least a half-dozen "oh well, I have to go near the garage anyway, might as well crank out a few rounds" incidents. 300 rounds later, I'm behind on my work. Guess I need to have a little more self-discipline.

Also love the fact that every time I pull that lever it just saved me about 20 cents.

                          Go BLUE!
Been using an XL650 for over 10 years. I can't imagine buying factory ammo for most my guns (even 223 now with price increases). The money saved is amazing. And what you can make is better than what you can buy because it is tweaked for YOUR guns. Last weekend, I cranked out the 223 that I will probably shoot tomorrow. Better ammo than the steelcase crap from WOLF, for less than greenbox Remington (and better quality).

What it saved me in 45-70 and 45 Colt alone was worth the price of admission. And their warranty is NO BS. I've emailed them asking the price of replacement parts that stupid me broke, only to see them show up on my doorstep a week later NC!

RIP Kelev my sweet Lab (and avatar). The best dog in the known universe. Thank you for 14 wonderful years. I will see you again one day.

I've been loading on my XL 650 since they first offered it( late 1992). The only upgrade was a new powder charger. When the primer advancing arm return spring broke, they sent me a new spring along with a new arm, though it wasn't needed. Great warranty. The spring, although broke into three pieces still was able to reset the arm with about 95% efficiency before I discovered it was even broken.

+1 on the Dillon Cool Blue Ladies, and the 550 works good for me!
