Recommend a good Beam Scale

I've been toying with the idea of purchasing one of the Powder/Dispenser combo's, but I load for my rifles in such small numbers, that It doesn't seem that the time saved would outweigh the cost. I'll load up 20 rounds for my Bolt gun, and take 2 hours to shoot them. I just can't justify spending 200 or 300 bucks.

However, I would like to purchase a new beam scale to replace my Lee, which is a bit Mickey Mouse to say the least.

Currently looking at the RCBS and Redding offerings, any other idears? I already have a Hornady digital, and had another digital in the past, so that isn't an option. I prefer and trust a beam scale more.

The RCBS or the Dillon. Both are made by the same company I believe.

Best deal out there on a GOOD balance beam scale is Dillon's "Eliminator" scale, $54.95 !!

Question...are you weighing each charge on a beam scale? Or are you using it to calibrate your powder measure/dispenser? If the latter, my take is that you would gain better accuracy from a more consistent dispenser than the scale it self. My lee scale is accurate to .1 grain when weighed on an RCBS digital scale. But the Lee powder dispenser throws .1-.3 difference depending on the type of powder.

Dillon "eliminater" scale here. Very smooth and pretty fast for a beam scale. Pretty dang accurate too. works great for me.

I have a few but I really like my RCBS 1010 and RCBS 510. I have the chargemaster combo and it works well as well. A fellow Calgunner once gave me a LEE Scale for a gift package I put together for a friend and I honestly feel that they work. Not the best scale out there but it works.

I've got the 10-10 and the 505. Both work very well and are pretty easy to use. For your purposes, I'd recommend the 505.

I weigh each charge for my precision rifle loads yes. Quick and dirty handgun loads, no. I'll use a powder measure or scoop...or just weigh the charge and get it 'close enough'.

It's a quality piece for sure, and makes the Lee Safety Scale look like a sick joke, a childs toy!

I didn't have much time to mess with it yesterday, but I put a bullet on it just to see how it would measure up with my digital. Exactly the same. 230.6.

I agree. I use a Lee scale to double check charges occasionally when I suspect my dispenser is trying to kill me. Very accurate and so far no problems with over 6 years use.

I use a Hornaday beam scale. It came with a powder trickler, funnel and scale for around 50 bucks from Midsouth.
