recipes for 9mm lead bullets...

i am going to start reloading 9mm 147gr lead bullets from http://www.uniqueprecisionbullets.com/ . i am using power pistol powder and wcc once fired brass... i was going to follow my hornady ballistics, but ofcourse these are not even jacketed so it will be way different. anyone have any recipes ? should i still seat them to saami specs? do i crimp? thanks

Just take the lip out from the expander/charge die. I dont really crimp lead. Make sure you have the right sized bullet as well, along with the right hardness. Personally, in 9 with a 147 I like 3.7 gr of 231. I would recommend getting if you dont have a Lee factory crimp die. I consider this key when loading lead for 9.

What gun are reloading for? Have you slugged the bore and chambercast the chamber? You may have leading issues if the bullets are undersized and Power Pistol is too slow to bump these bullets up appreciably.

i am shooting a glock 19 with a kkm barrel...

Those have tight chambers. You should be OK. Work-up from 4-5 grains. Use your chamber as a case gauge. I'd seat them long at first (@1.150" OAL) and drop them into the chamber. If they hit the rifling at that OAL, and they prolly will, I'd reduce the OAL in .010" increments until they chamber freely. Then I'd give it another .010" for good measure. PP is extremely forgiving in the pressure department.

thanks j-cat... i am alittle confused on the part about reducing the seating depth though... also i am confused about the crimping... will my standard hornady seating die crimp? i heard i should do a taper crimp...

Depending on how short the throat is, i.e. the distance from the edge of the chamber body to the rifling, a round with a 1.150" OAL may not chamber fully. The bullet will hit the rifling before the whole case is fully seated inside the chamber. So you may have to reduce the OAL until the round chambers, then a little more for good measure.

Your Hornady seater crimps as well, but not very well. You are likely to see lead shaving as the bullet is seated. Seating and crimping at the same time is a pain in the ***. You should buy a separate taper crimp die.

See that area inbetween the chamber and the rifling? That is the throat. The length of the throat will dictate how far out you can seat the bullet before it hits the rifling. On most guns, the throat is so long that the bullet will not hit the rifling at mag length OAL. But you have a KKM barrel and the throat is prolly shorter. It was on my KKM 357 conversion barrel.

You don't wanna have the bullet crammed into the rifling in semi-auto pistols. It will cause malfunctions, i.e failure to go into battery, and pressure spiking. You want a little bullet jump.
