    .357 load recipes?

OK...don't holler at me. I searched. Didn't find what I was looking for. Feel free to put up the dupe light if ya find something.

Gonna start reloading for my new 4" GP100. I'll be using Sierra's 125 grain JSP.

Which powder would be "good"? Goal is a balance of velocity and accuracy...along the lines of SD loads.

Recently read where Blue Dot is not recommended for any 125 grain bullet.

Going on my Sierra book, I'm kinda leaning towards 296 or Vihta Vou-whatever 110...those seem to be able to kick up the speed.

17 grains of Alliant 2400 is what I've been using for jacketed bullets but I dont care for it too much. 4.6 grains of Win 231 is what I would use as a starting load. Look into Win 231 powder as well as bullseye.

8.0 grs of Unique behind 125 gr HP @1250-1300 fps is not that bad of a load. max is around 9.7 (hornaday). plus if you double charge it, you will know!

Thats why I was using 2400. This is both a good and bad quality of a powder. Good- easy to catch a double charge. Bad- costs more $$

2400 is more then unique? unique is way cheaper then 2400. and in the long run you use less powder with unique then 2400. but i do like 2400 . it works well in 30 carbine, actually.

Years ago I used 5.6 grains of W231 behind 125gr Zero JHP for my Bianchi Cup (NRA Action Pistol) match load. Makes the power factor (1100 FPS)and delivered 2" groups at 50 yards. It's a lower pressure load for 357 Mag but worked for me.

3.7 grains of 231 under a 148gr HBWC (seated flush with the case mouth), either RP or Speer, witha FC-100 primer.

Sorry, no JSP load data here, but the HBWC will shoot inside a nickel at 15 yards.

Thanks, guys. Unique and 231 will be looked at a little more closely.

'Nother question, being as I'm a rifle reloader...with such light-sounding loads (4 to 6 grains), have you had any issues with ignition? I mean, seems like the powder's gonna lay all on the side of the case. The heavier charges of 12to 16 grains sound like they'd fill the case better.

Yes, with light loads you have powder positioning issues. They ignite fine but the velocity is different depending on position.

We tip the gun up before each shot to settle the powder against the primer flash hole before each shot. This you have to live with if you wanna use target loads as none will give you 100% load density.

The winchester site supports dropping 22 grains of H110 under a 125 grain HPXTP. I may load a few that way.
