    Problem loading 45ACP

Here's a problem I hope one of you more advanced reloaders can help with. I bought some plated 200 gr Flat Nose 45's measuring .451 to reload for plinking in my 45 auto.
I am having a heck of a time getting a crimp on my Dillon 550 on them- I've adjusted the crimp like the book says- touch the head of the empty case and give the die and additional 1/4 turn. I've gone up to 1 full turn and I can still put the cartridge between my index finger and thumb and push the bullet into the case. Any suggestions? And yes I'll call Dillon in the morning.

Even without a crimp you should not be able to push them in with one finger. I agree with Gotsig, sounds like there is too much flare put on the case.

Is your sizing die adjusted properly?

Thanks, I'll back that off. I tried to have as minimum a bell as I can but was told by the manufacturer that you need to have some to keep from removing the copper plating when seating the bullet. I'll try what you suggested and report back.

You dont need much bell. I found the plating to be tougher than they made it out to be.
Try adjusting your crimp die with a case that has been sized in station one only and see what you get. Remember that no bell happens until you hit the v-shaped portion of the funnel.

DOH! Because I didn't want to put a new primer in (to keep these separate from loaded rounds)..... I didn't go thru the first step- resizing and placing a new primer. There must be an old saying about shortcuts....
thanks for all the advice and help.

you can still resize without depriming, just remove the decapping pin from the die.
