7.62x39 powder question

I am going to pull the bullets from my Yugo ( corrosive )ammo because it is extremely hard to find FMJ .311 bullets, then use them on my boxer primed casings. My question is: is the powder corrosive as well as the primers? If not, is it OK to reuse the powder?

I use reclaimed powder for some plinking rounds. Tens of thousands of pounds of reclaimed powder are sold by companies like Pat's, High-tech, Widner's, etc. every year. Remember that reclaimed powders are not canister grade powders though! You have to be careful when working up a load. In your case, you're lucky. You already have a way to determine a safe load. As you pull the bullets, you can weigh 10-20 rounds and average them. Then, since you don't know exactly what changing the primer will do, start with about 10% less than your average pulled load and work your way back up to it.

It's a shame to see you pulling perfectly good ammo. I wish I was closer to you so I could either trade you for bullets or non-magnetic Wolf.

yeah i'd just shoot the stuff, no use wasting perfectly good ammo. just do a corrosive clean after you're done. trips me out how many people are deathly afraid of corrosive ammo, it's really not a big deal. as far as .310-.311 bullets go, they're not that hard to find. most 7.62x39 like a .310 in lieu of .311, but either one can be had without too much trouble. shop around, you do have the internet or you wouldn't be here. buy some powder you know you can trust and load your own good stuff, use the surplus for BS plinking. just my $0.02

+1 on the .310 bullets and Grafs. I bought 3000 123 GR FMJ Winchester bullets off GB for a smoking deal. They've been just as good as the Hornady 3147's I tested (which has been discontinued).

Yep, it's only the primers that are corrosive.

I still don't understand the OP's reason for pulling the bullets though... ???
