    Brass prices just increased...again!

I was checking Top Brass site this morning and I see that their prices have gone up this weekend. .223 is now $89/1000 and .308 is $134/1000.

    15-20% jump!

I have been following the prices of base metals, the price increases for reloading supplies now just seem to be price gouging, copper, zinc, lead prices have leveled and started to drop and the expectation for the coming year is that demand will be lower as China's gov't works to slow growth and home building in the US slows. New mines are opened and inventory is up. This is profiteering B.S. using the war and perceived global commodity demands as an excuse for raising prices.

Actually there are a couple more factors in play here as well. For a long time the lots at the Gov't auctions, where all of the once-fired cases come from, sold in lots of 20-50k lbs and smaller and a high percentage of those lots didn't come with any "demil" requirements. Fast forward to today's auctions and you will find that they are 1) being sold in 100,000lbs+ more frequently; 2) higher number are requiring demil of the brass. These two changes now favor the person buying for scrap value more than the business buying for reloading supplies. In the last few auctions, they have been selling for $2.38 to $2.42/lb! So that is why the prices are heading up. So eventhough the brass recycle value has dropped from say last Nov, the overall price increases from last summer is finally hitting the small dealers, as their inventories are reduced and they are forced to try buying at the higher auction prices. I know the folks at Top Brass said they were trounced on the last couple auctions they tried bidding on. This was two weeks ago when I place my order.

Yup. That's why I've been buying Lapua brass to replenish my .223, .308, and 6.5x55 for my match loads while prices are still 'low'.

                    What I don't pick up at a range, I pick up once-fired from www.brassworldonline.org.

Pretty cheap prices, in my opinion - availability isn't that huge, but shipping is flat rate.
