Cartridge OAL

My C.O.L for my savage using 168gr and 175 have both been about 2.818 inches to the lands but I am going to give 155gr SMK's a try and when I try for the lands it's 2.9---. Basically too long for the case to even get a bite on it. I normally seat about .01 from the lands but there is no way I can with the 155's. Is this normal? What do most of you seat you 155's to and is there as big of a difference as mine 155-175gr
