Please help me with my Dillon 650

    Hello all,

I have been fighting a priming problem with my Dillon 650. I am having sideways primers, crushed primers ect.. I have loaded many thousands of 10mm and .45acp with little to no problems. I think the platform is out of spec. It is only rearing its ugly head because small primers are less forgiving and need tighter tolerances. Take a look at the picts. I decided to stretch the index ball spring to give the ball more force on the shell plate. The index ball is firmly in the shell plate ball recess. With that in mind look at the primer in relation to the shell plate. The priming system is not adjustable as the index spring and ball are not adjustable. The only thing it can be is an out of spec platform. Am I looking at this right?? Sammy

What I want to know is why you're using a large primer plate with small primers?

The primer disc is the correct one hes using. It looks that way cause the shell plate is what you see and it gives the look of a large primer disk..

What was the previous caliber loaded & what are you loading now?
Is the case tensioning arm ( that springy thing that holds the case in the shellplate) adjusted correctly?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Thank you Bruce. That was the problem. I had peeviously been loading .45acp and it was adjusted for that. Just primed 100 cases flawlessly. Sammy

This was going to be my guess. If you leave that out just a wee bit too far, you get all the issues you mentioned.
