    ballistic tips

For those that have used them how do you like? Good distance and accuracy. What were you shooting them from. Iam looking to make up some reloads using the ballistic tips. They would be in .223 cal coming out of a 1/9 twist. any good sugestions. Not hunting just trying to max out the range of the rifle with some accuracy.

I've shot the 55 grain BTs out of my varmint ARs and they had excellent accuracy but not as good as the Hornady VMax in my guns. Not near as explosive on varmints either.

If your trying to max out range, use Hornady 80gr A-Max. I think they have a BC of .450 or something..been a while since I checked. I use 75HPBT for 600-800 yard shots. But guys I shoot with swears by the A-Max and they do get good scores...Just dont know about the 1/9 twist. With that twist maybe the best you can do is the HPBT 68gr that Hornady has, has a BC of 0.35x. I've launched 55gr and 62gr pills out to 400-450 yards with no problems. How long of a distance are you planning to shoot?

Edit: Opps, you said Ballistics. ANyways, you look at the bullets BC for longer range, not always true but the higher the BC the better it slips through the wind/air so you'll have more accurate shots. I just checked and Hornadys 60gr Ballistic Tips BC are 0.265 compared to the 68gr HPBT BC at 0.355. Seems like the HP will be a better choice if looking by numbers for longer range shooting.

I have used a lot of Nosler 50 and 55 BT's and Hornady 40, 50 and 55 BT's in competition out to 200 yards. That was all in several different AR spaceguns, and they all shot well. Also used a few hundred of them on squirrels near Alturas, but the 80 Berger's and 80 JLK's were more fun for the squirrels. They are all great bullets and the faster they go, the better they shoot. That is up until pressures are over max for that rifle.
