    223 load for a 1:9 advice needed

Just picked up a Steyr Pro Varminter in 223, it has a 1:9 twist SS barrel. I load 6mm-223, so I plan on using the same components outside of the dies; powder wise, I have H335, BL-C2, and 748 at my disposal as well as CCI and Remington primers and a few 1000's 1x brass. All I need is to choose the bullet. My targeted range will be 400yrds with 300-200yrds being the norm. Is it possible with the 1:9 twist and say 60grn bullet, or should I just set my sites on a dedicated 300 yrd gun (if so what bullet would you recommend, I know heavier is somtimes better but is it necessary for this range).
My 6mm-223 drops like a rock around the 500 yrd mark (70grn SMK 3180 fps)

    Any advice is appreciated

you will be able to use up to 69gr bullets with the 1-9" but you will be limited on range,,,they might go out to 400yds....but 300 is the farthest I have shot 69gr SMK's and that was with Varget and with a wind.. is was not pretty at several matches....

Get yourself some Berger 75 gr. VLD (Very Low Drag) bullets. They work just fine out of a 1/9 barrel. I have used them out of a 1/9 20" Stag that I use as an F-class rifle and they make it out to 600 yards just fine. I load them so they're just off the lands. I've shot 69 gr. SMK HPBT out of that same rifle out to 600 yards as well, and while they worked okay, the Berger 75 gr. VLD's are outstanding. That's what I'm shooting tomorrow at Camp Pendleton in a 3x600 match. However, I would suggest getting yourself some Varget as well. I'm not familiar with the powders you listed, but I know that Varget does the job for me.

I also have RL15, I'm trying to limit the amount of powder at my house, with the powder combined, I have close to 30lbs so adding another 8lb of Varget is not a great idea (I try to make the most if I have to pay for the hazmat fee in shipping)

Rl15 is the one I use for the 75hpbt hornady. I used it out to 600 yards with good results. Little more dirty then varget but shoots streighter which matters more then a few wasted patches.
