    Going to reload, which bullet??

So I'm getting closer to buying everything...
I'm reading the specs and load data from 'lymans reloading handbook'...
My original plan was to load 40s&w 180gr FMJ, but the only bullet listed in the handbook at that weight is JHP...Not the FMJ...
Can the FMJ bullet be loaded to the same specs listed in the handbook for JHP (as long as the weight is the same?).

So, should i just spend the few extra bucks and get the JHP to keep as close to the chart? My reloads will be for plinking, so I figured the FMJ is the standard for range ammo

Yes. As long as there both a copper jacket bullet but the "case overall lenght" is not going to be the same.

Instead of conforming to the only data your manual has, find data for the load you want. Grab a few more manuals, and check out the websites of various powder manufacturers for a lot more load data.

You should be able to find data for what your looking to do, somebody has to have done it before.

You didnt say what type of powder your using. A lot of powder manufactures have free loading data on there web sites. I got data books from Speer, Hornady, Lee and Sierra. Its good to compare data from more than one source.

Use the starting loads listed in your manual and you can interchange components that are similar (same weight, jacketed, etc).

Google any of the gun powder manufacturers, and they have a lot of loading data on their sites.

Go to Hodgdon.com and click through the links under "Click here for reloading data". You can find a lot of relaoding data there.

The Speer manual is the best beginners manual out there. It covers A LOT of different bullet varieties.

Get one of these and you'll have all the major powder and bullet manufacturer data in one easy to read book.
