    Grrrr 9mm loading woes

so I decide to start making 9mm, I am not even working up a charge yet, I am just setting up the dies...

first off, my dillon carbide set does not seem to have an expander. I have resizing/decap, seater and a taper crimp die.

so the "snap caps" I am making won't go into battery. I am using cast 125 RN that measure .355 diameter and .566 long, I am seating to 1.169 just like the book says but they won't go into battery

Hmm, I run my 9mm at 1.100 tp 1.125 I use both 115 fmj and 124 tmj with no problems. Hope you gt it figured out,

I show 1.169 as the max length for 9mm, probably too long for your chamber. Try seating closer to 1.12 and see how that goes.

What part of the cartridge won't chamber? If it is the front/top, you many need to adjust for more crimp.
If it is the back/bottom of the cartridge that won't chamber, you may need to adjust the resizing die.

What expander are you speaking of? The only "expanding" that should be going on is when the powder die bells the mouth of the case.

The expander is the powder die that flares the case mouth. Just sizing the case should allow it to be chambered. Try a different gun, lowering the sizing die, try just the case or just a case gauge.

            0) do you have a 9mm cartridge guage.... if you don't have one, STOP, get that before you proceed...

            1) just try to chamber a sized case... in guage and in your chamber...

            2) seat MUCH shorter... 1.169 is way too long... i always puzzled why that is the 9mm COAL... as a reference... IIRC... WWB is like 1.142 only...

            3) your sizing die, should be screwed down to touching the shell plate when the ramp is UP...

Get a Lee universal expander. It works with all calibers.

Your 9mm bullet prolly has a front driving band that is hitting the rifling prematurely. Seat the bullet deeper until it chambers.

Prepare to deal with lotsa leading. Many euro 9mm chambers have huge throats and need .358-.359" bullets to seal correctly. My Sigs have .358" bores. S&W/Ruger bores are closer to .355". They are more lead friendly.

Don't use a fast burning powder. A slower powder at a lower pressure level prevents leading.

                  Good Luck.

is bullseye considered a fast burning powder?

well, that sis the trick... in the pinch I used a spent 7.62X29 steel casing in a vice to expand the mouth, and now they cycle

                          here is my next ???

these snapcaps don't have any primers. I have 2 kinds of bullets, one is a lazercast ish SWC they are .357 diameter 145 grain. when I put the rod end of my micromter in the flashole, there is only 400/1000" to the back of the casing... I think that may cause overpressure

I have a pound of Winchester WSF, would that be more appropriate?
