223 Reload Issues

Alright, so I don't want to bag on my ammo guy if maybe this is common so let me just ask for some feedback.

At the range today I found quite a few casings on the ground that had the primer completely blown out of the brass. I didn't notice it while firing because they all fired off ok.

Then I had a failure to feed. I had to lock open my AR and get the brass out. Then when I tried to re-rack it and the bolt wouldn't close all the way. That's when I noticed a little round chunk of metal in the feed ramp. Got that out and fired away. No problem.

Then as I was picking up my brass and I noticed many casings with a clean hole straight through. The primer was gone.
I actually found another primer piece down in the trigger well when I was cleaning later.

So, does this normally happen? I never noticed this with any new out-of-the box ammo. Just the reload stuff.

Brass could be worn out or over swaged. Not common but it happens with range pick up brass. Who knows how many times a piece has been used. People should really only call it once fired if they fired it or know who fired it. If its pickup brass then it should just be called range brass.

Don't shoot it anymore and take it back. Either its got too much powder or it did at one point and the pockets have been blown out. Best case its bad ammo and will jam or damage your gun. Worst case you lose some fingers and an eye when you upper receiver blows up. Neither is worth it.

I guess it's a good thing it's all gone now.

Looks like I should maybe go back over to Grant Boys and pick up a bunch of the PMC they have there.

When you start talking about losing a finger or an eye, suddenly $10 a box doesn't seem too expensive after all.

True. Using reloads that you didn't make is kind of scary and risky. And look around for some deals on brass cased ammo, last time I was at Turners they had PMC for $6.99 a box.

I've had brand new MagTech 30 Carbine ammo that the primers just fell out of Bad QC from the factory.

True. Using reloads that you didn't make is kind of scary and risky. And look around for some deals on brass cased ammo, last time I was at Turners they had PMC for $6.99 a box.

I bought some of that at Turner's also. Like an idiot, I didn't buy all of it because I has just finished my AR build and that was some of the 1st 223 ammo I bought. I didn't realize what a smokin price that was.

Won't make that mistake again.

Nope. 18" BCM on my AR.

My ammo guy saw my post contacted me right away to follow up and figure out what the issue was and offered to refund all my money.

And yeah, he's licensed.

I have a 20" CMMG and noticed that I lose primers after 3X reloading, I have started to load on the lower end of the scale.
