    Reloading Blanks.

I do WWII Reenactments and blanks cost a lot of money. Was wondering if anybody new or heard about reloading blanks? I no I can get the powder and primers but I don't know about getting the blank bullets? I will re use the blank casings.

    -Thanks.

are you talking about blanks to fire in a weapon, or just dummy rounds?

blank rounds are very simple to make witha crimp die.

In a weapon. Ones that work just like a real round, except no bullet to actually fly out of the gun.

So you can buy a crimp die?

yes. crimp dies are available. for almost every caliber! the only crimp die i have is the .50 BMG die. and i am very happy with it. it makes a 6-petal crimp at the top.

are you trying to make the weapon cycle on blanks? or just to make noise?

you can also load a slow burning powder so that fire will exit the muzzle, that would be awsome to see! IMO

I'll be using these blanks in an M1 Garand and a 1919A4. So yes the rounds need to cycle it, but I have a blank fire adapter for my M1 Garand. As real as possible without a bullet leaving the gun. haha.

I'd like to see that, big ole ball of fire coming out of the muzzle

well there are two styles of blanks that i know of...

              1) the 1909 blank for the 06 which has a red disk up front(which worked great), but not made anymore.... but it is available...you can look around.

              2) the standard Star crimp. 6 petal.... the people that use this stuff are mostly use it at 21 gun salutes and stuff in that area....

they get that ammo from brazil, it has this horrible white gunk on the tip that eventually jams up the gas systems in the garand....

you could work up a load for blanks and then crank them out. i have made them before and are fun to do. the pain is sealing the tip, but thats another story.

you can use a slow burning powder to get a flame at the end of the muzzle or use a faster burning powder to just make noise.

both loads will function the weapon....

Well I want it to be as realistic as possible. I also don't want to give my position away during night battles, with have a flame lol. All the guys in my unit buy there blanks here:

There are a couple other places you can get them from but mainly from the site listed above. I'd like to make my own for cheaper, so if I just got the spent casings from the blanks, I can reload those back into blanks, if I have that crimp die?

used to use a thin cardboard wad, roll crimp, and a drop of waterglass to seal/hold the wad. Fed fine from springfields and krags, never tried in garand. Water glass is sodium silicate -- drug store - my ha-penny

I dont mean to rain on your parade, but does your organization have any rules about the type of blanks used? Such as your homemade ones. Possibly just for insurance reasons they would require commercial blanks. I dont know if I would feel comfortable if someone was shooting at me with unknown/untested ammo. No offense. Just curious.

No offense taken but I plan on fully testing these at the gun range. If I have any problems then I won't use these in a Reenactment. I don't want anybody hurt. I never thought to ask if reloading my own was ok though. I'll find this out.
