    Beretta .38 Lead-friendly?

    Hi all -

I've learned from Calguns that Glocks are not lead-friendly. Are there any others that I should watch out for? A friend of mine has a Berretta .38 87(?) which he's asking me to do reloads for but I'm not sure if that pistol accepts lead. Is there a place that stores such information for all pistols?

    Thanks

The reason glocks are not lead friendly is because of the Polygonal barrel. Because there are no grooves for the lead to hide in like a traditional barrel it can build up in patches or puddles right in the path of the bullet which increase the pressure and as we all know too much pressure in a gun is a very bad thing. I'm not familiar with the Beretta barrel type but i'd say as long is its a traditional button rifling (I'd bet it is) you should be fine to shoot it. You can also shoot lead out of a Polygonal but only shot a couple hundred and clean the barrel out very very well. Also never shoot FMJ rounds after you have shot lead.

Button rifling on left..........Polygonal on right
