The only one I have run across is "steel". No Wolf, Brown Bear, etc (at indoor ranges only).

Most outdoor ranges in SoCal have a range policy of not allowing ammo that has steel in the projectile (steel jackets and/or steel cores). This is to help prevent fires in the dry brush caused by the steel sparking when it impacts. There a couple of ranges in NorCal that have this same policy.

Most indoor ranges in the entire State have a range policy of banning armor piercing ammo to protect their expensive backstops.

A few (very few) ranges have a policy against steel cased ammo because it "contaminates" the brass that they sweep up off the floor to recycle.

California law prohibits tracers, incendiary/explosive ammo and "Handgun ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or armor".

Very illegal to possess in California. Even having just the projectiles is illegal.

Some indoor ranges don't allow the use of JHP.

Was at The Range here in Fresno the other day. They had a sign saying they needed to approve your ammo before you could shoot. I'm a fairly regular shooter so they didn't ask me and I didn't see them asking anyone else, but something tells me there was a problem of some kind that prompted this new sign.
