    223 case dents...need some help

so ive been reloading for not to long but i have mostly done pistol rounds and now im trying to do some rifle (223). i have only tried to size/de-prime and some of the shells come out with small dents that sort of ripple around the shoulder, and they also come out kinda dirty.

can someone please help me figure out how to stop doing this
    thanks

You're using too much case lube. Use less and before you size anymore, take a Q tip with some alcohol on it and clean the inside of your sizing die. Make sure your cases are clean before sizing them.

Many shooters take their brass and run them through a case cleaner BEFORE sizing them. once fires brass has carbon and dirt on them and should be wiped off or cleaned. On small batches, I use alcohol and a rag to wipe them down. They dry off quick and then can be lubed and sized.

Also, check to be sure the tiny hole in the side of the sizing die body is clean. You can take a tiny piece of wire or a small paper clip to clean it out. Some reloaders don't about the tiny hole in the sizing die. It lets air pass through. If it is clogged, it can cause case dents also.

Make sure your sizing die is clean. I use one shot lube by throwing a couple of handfulls of brass into a large zip lock bag. Spray a couple of shots, close bag & shake. Than size & load. I even give my pistol brass a shot even though I use carbide dies, just seems to run through the press alot smoother.

Ah, the art of lubing. .223 doesnt need much lube. I use one pump of dillon lube per one bin of brass.

I definitely do not recommend One Shot for rifle brass, especially 223. One shot is the best for pistol cases and I do use it all of the time. However, I had 223 brass begin to get stuck in my sizing die with the one shot.

I now use dillon case lube. It is lanolin and alcohol mixed together. It comes in a spray bottle. It works great but leaves a sticky residue. After tumbling, lubing, and sizing, I run the brass through the tumbler again for a few minutes. The lube comes right off. Then I trim the brass and run it through my dillon 550 with a universal decapping die in the first position to remove any corn cob from the primer flash holes.

I would be interesed in seeing how many people actually use one shot sucessfully for rifle brass. I had read about probems with it before, and for me the statements proved to be true. Maybe I am doing it wrong or just am unlucky.

ok so i guess i am over lubing. i also have a lube pad which i can try, ive just read alot of people saying how good one shot is, so that is why i was using that. also when using the pad i just put a little lube on it and just get lube on the body and not the shoulder and neck, right?? and then prob put a little lube in the mouth?

anyone ever try the rcbs lube die?

Been using it for years with ne'er a problem. Like the poster above I put my cases in a zip lock baggie (gallon size - 50 - 100 cases at a time) spray a couple of time and shake. To me its far superier to any of the other lubes (and I think in the past 30 years or so I've used 'em all).
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

Yeah I have used the RCBS lube die. I use it in a progessive press set a station or 2 before the full length size when I am resizing 223. Thing works great. Less mess on your hands, easy to fill, consistent and makes resizing a breeze. I have a turrent setup just for resizing.

Yup check your dies and a little less lube, I dillute Lee's reloading cream with water and shake my brass to coat. Lesser dents will just shoot out.

I use one shot on all my rifle brass and never had a problem with stuck cases. The only case I don't use it on is the 50bmg
